In cooperation with the New York City Sports Commission and the New York Daily News, NASCAR and Nextel are supporting the 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Champions Week and Awards Ceremony with a number of events throughout New York City beginning Sunday, Nov. 28 and running through Friday, Dec. 3. Nextel Cup Series NYC Pit Stop Tour Nov. 29 - Dec. 3 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. Throughout New York, NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Show Cars will be stationed on display throughout the city. In conjunction with the Tour, fans will have an opportunity to participate in a collect-and-win Game Card promotion to earn a variety of NASCAR Nextel Cup Series prizes. At each car location, fans can receive a Game Card to be stamped at all Show Car locations; stamps can then be redeemed for prizes at the Nextel Racing Experience. The more stamps collected, the bigger the prize received. NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Victory Lap Thursday, Dec. 2 9:30 a.m. Throughout Manhattan, starting at NASDAQ NASCAR drivers will be on hand at NASDAQ for the opening bell at 9:30 a.m. Then, starting at 10 a.m.at the NASDAQ Building, the contenders in the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup will parade through Manhattan in their race cars, ending at the NASCAR New York office, 375 Park Avenue. A special guest will be on hand to present the "Gentlemen, start your engines" command. Victory Lap procession route The NYPD will escort two Chevy pace vehicles and the Top 10 drivers in authentic stock cars on the following route: Start at NASDAQ Building in Times Square South on Broadway to 42nd Street Left onto 42nd Street East on 42nd Street to Madison Avenue Left onto Madison AvenueNorth on Madison AvenueRight onto 46th Street East on 46th Street to Park Avenue Left onto Park Avenue Park Avenue north to the curb outside 375 Park Avenue (52nd & 53rd), which is the NASCAR NY office.Nextel Cup Series Top 10 Drivers Autograph Session and Trophy Display Thursday, Dec. 2 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. NBC Experience, 30 Rockefeller Center Drivers will be available for a public autograph session at the NBC Experience. The inaugural NASCAR Nextel Cup Series championship trophy will also be on display for photographs. Those who purchase NASCAR licensed merchandise during the week will receive vouchers for driver autographs and photo with the inaugural NASCAR Nextel Cup Series trophy, courtesy of NBC Universal and Kodak, the official imaging partner of NASCAR. NASCAR Nextel Cup Series 2004 Awards Ceremony Friday, Dec. 3 7 p.m. Waldorf-Astoria Hotel The 2004 Nextel Cup Series Champion will officially be crowned, with all 10 contenders from the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup receiving recognition. The ceremony will be broadcast via tape-delay at 9 p.m. ET on TNT and at a later date on NBC. |
