BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Ken Schrader, whose last NASCAR national touring series pole came in November 1999, will start from the No. 1 position in tonight's NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series O'Reilly 200 at Bristol Motor Speedway. Schrader, one of 19 to break Ted Musgrave's year-old track record, drove his Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet around the .533-mile, high-banked concrete speedway at an average speed of 126.922 mph. That was just over a tenth of a second quicker than the Toyota Tundra of Mike Skinner. Skinner, the 1996 Bristol pole winner, recorded a lap of 125.955. Schrader now has won poles in all three NASCAR national series. His most recent NASCAR Busch Series pole came in November 1999 at Phoenix International Raceway. Schrader last sat on the pole in a NASCAR Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway in April 1999. David Starr qualified third in the 36-truck field, followed by Shane Hmiel and Carl Edwards. |
