Hill commemorates Kenseth All-Star win

For the better part of two decades, motorsports artist Garry Hill has chronicled the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series All Star race on canvas. The inaugural release in that collection commemorated the 1987 event and became the first signed and numbered NASCAR print ever published.

Each original artwork since has been made available to the public as a limited edition print, and the tradition continues with the introduction of the latest print in Hill's highly-acclaimed All Star Series, "NASCAR Nextel All Star Challenge 2004."

"Since 1987, I have had the distinct honor and privilege of documenting our sport's All-Star event each year with my artwork," said Hill. "I am pleased to announce that the tradition continues as Nextel is now sponsoring the original painting and print series. From an artist's standpoint, I can't tell you how gratifying it is to know that the folks at Nextel appreciate the significance and the longevity of the All Star Series and have come on board to support those artworks."

This riveting rendering depicts eventual victor Matt Kenseth coaxing his No. 17 Roush Racing Ford past 2002 winner Ryan Newman to capture auto racing's most prestigious non-points event.

"As always, I try to capture the defining moment of each year's event on canvas," noted Hill. "One of the most difficult aspects of what I do is choosing that particular moment. Everyone says a picture is worth a thousand words, but it's up to the artist to prove it. Picking that one defining moment is paramount.

"When Matt drove around Ryan for the lead, it was the move that decided the race. Ryan was on old tires and held him off for as long as he could, but Matt finally dove to the inside and took the lead. It was a classic battle between two of the best in the business."

Limited edition lithographs of "NASCAR Nextel All Star Challenge" are limited to only 500 sequentially numbered prints hand-signed by the artist and Kenseth himself. A total of 50 signed and numbered artist's proofs are also available.

In addition to the "All Star Series" collection, Hill's "Great Moments in Racing" relives some of the most pivotal events in NASCAR History. The artist is perhaps best known for his print entitled "The Pass in The Grass," which showcased Dale Earnhardt's daring move to the inside of Bill Elliott in the 1987 running of The Winston. That artwork was the initial release in the Great Moments in Racing Series, and is one of the most recognizable racing prints of all time.
