Compared to some drivers, Dale Jarrett and his Robert Yates Racing/UPS team don't run very many special paint jobs. So when they do, people take notice. With Christmas already on the horizon, DJ and company are participating in a special paint scheme promotion aimed at raising more than $1 million for Toys For Tots. Jarrett's No. 88 Ford Taurus will shed its traditional look as bright lime green and tomato red replace the signature brown for the November 6 Dickies 500 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series event at Texas Motor Speedway. For Jarrett, the project was a family affair, with his three youngest children, Natalee (17), Karsyn (15) and Zachary (10), creating the car's unique design, which looks as if children hand-painted the design. Jarrett unveiled the car at a recent convention of The UPS Store franchisees. As part of the initiative, participating UPS stores nationwide will be offering an exclusive 1:43 scale die-cast car for only $9.95. This particular car will only be available at UPS Stores. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Toys for Tots compliments of The UPS Store franchisees, UPS, Dale Jarrett, Robert Yates Racing and Action Performance. "There's nothing more rewarding than putting a smile on a child's face," Jarrett said. "It's particularly meaningful when you can do that for a child whose holidays might not be very bright. I am pleased to have this opportunity to support the Toys for Tots program through The UPS Store." As an extension of the promotion, participating The UPS Store locations also will offer customers Toys for Tots pledge cards for only $1, with all proceeds going to support local Toys for Tots activities. Sales of the die-cast cars and pledge cards are expected to generate more than $1 million for Toys for Tots. "A dollar doesn't seem like much these days," D.J. added. "But when you think of all the love and joy it could help deliver, it suddenly feels like a million." In addition to participating The UPS Store locations, several racing-related organizations will also serve as toy collection sites for Toys for Tots this holiday season. Robert Yates Racing in Mooresville, NC and Dale Jarrett, Inc. in Hickory, NC will both be collecting toys. Toys will also be accepted at Action Performance's offices in both Concord, NC and Phoenix, AZ. The UPS Store representatives will also collect toys at a special display at the season-ending Ford Championship weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. While the exclusive 1:43 scale die-cast can be found only at The UPS Store, the popular 1:24 scale version is now on sale at the NASCAR.COM SuperStore. You'll also find other highly-collectible DJ die-casts from this season, including his standard, Mother's Day, and Herbie: Fully Loaded paint schemes. The standard livery is also offered in a Hometown Edition, which showcase graphics specific to Jarrett's hometown of Conover, N.C., under the hood. |
