Van's Holiday shopping list: At the wheel

Nearly every NASCAR enthusiast has a little Walter Mitty in him. Every race fan secretly fanaticizes about being Dale Jr. or Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart.

Of course, most will never realize their dream of sitting behind the wheel of a real race car. But the folks at Team Up have created a series of 1:6 scale remote control cars that are, as they say, the next best thing to being there.

Each car is adorned in team specific graphics and a fully functional control for reverse, forward, left and right turns. They may not blast down the straightaway at Talladega at 200+ mph, but these babies will scream down your driveway at more than 20 mph -- a pretty good clip for an RC car. And a signal range of more than 100 yards will carry each 34" racer the length of a football field. To add a touch of authenticity, the car's transmitter is molded in the shape of an impact wrench.

Four different cars are currently available at the NASCAR.COM Superstore: No. 3 Dale Earnhardt, No. 8 Dale Earnhardt Jr., No. 24 Jeff Gordon, and No. 20 Tony Stewart.

It's just the gift for the Walter Mitty on your Christmas list.
