General Motors to be Presenting Sponsor for Distance Running Hall of Fame Weekend

UTICA, N.Y., April 14, 2005 /PRNewswire via AP/

Officials today announced that General Motors Corporation (GM) will be the Presenting Sponsor for this year's Distance Running Hall of Fame Weekend featuring the 15K world-recognized Boilermaker Road Race.

"Supporting the National Distance Running Hall of Fame and the Boilermaker is a natural fit for GM," said Gary F. Grates, Vice President - Communications/North America for General Motors. "It's a mutual focus on quality and the national scope that makes GM, The Hall of Fame, and The Boilermaker a natural fit. General Motors has always been the company that America counted on in the 'long run' and always will be. General Motors produces some of the highest quality cars and trucks in North America and around the world; in fact, GM received the highest score of any domestic automaker in a survey of dependability released last year by J.D. Powers and Associates. To that end, the National Distance Running Hall of Fame recognizes this country's, if not the world's, highest quality long distance runners."

"GM brings tremendous value to us locally," said John Petrone, Co-Director of the Distance Running Hall of Fame. "Both its global and national presence and its focus on quality made GM the natural choice. We are very excited that General Motors, the leading automotive company in the world, is bringing its insight, energy, expertise and 'gotta have' cars and trucks to the thousands of runners and supporters of this world-renowned race."

General Motors will showcase some of the 17 all-new vehicles they have coming in 2005 during the Distance Running Hall of Fame Weekend. "This year, GM will continue to launch an unprecedented number of exciting new products," said Grates, a native of Frankfort, N.Y., who graduated from both Utica College (BS '81) and Syracuse University (MS '99). "Partnering with organizations such as the Runners Hall of Fame and events like the Boilermaker, provide unique and creative venues to introduce our great vehicles to consumers."
