Sunoco Pit Move: Dover

Pit Story of the Race

There weren't a lot of incidents on pit road at Dover, which was mildly surprising, since the pit road at the Monster Mile is one of the top three toughest in NASCAR.

Ryan Newman hit a tire during one of his pit stops. Dover is one of the few pit roads without any grass on the right side of pit road, and Newman simply couldn't avoid it.

"It's just a tight pit road here," Newman said. "It would help if they'd widen pit road for us."

Dover's pit boxes are both narrow and not very deep, and since the race didn't have any green-flag stops on Sunday, pit road got extremely crowded.

The pit road at Dover is very narrow, but the track's characteristics also feature a concrete pit road, which the crews appreciate, because it is much smoother than asphalt

The final round of pit stops were made under green, but every one made it to pit road without a problem, which is impressive considering how hot and slick the track was.

Biffle wins with four tires

Greg Biffle was the only car in the top five that opted to take four tires on the final stop. It was probably influenced by his experience at Bristol, when Biffle failed to come in for tires after leading the most laps.

It was a mistake that Biffle says he won't repeat again.

"I want four tires on the car no matter what," Biffle said. "I don't care if we lose track position. I don't care if we come out fifth. We're going to put four tires on it."

Biffle's stops were strong all day, and he was aided by a solid pit position. Biffle had a stall right in front of an opening in the pit wall, and Biffle was able to get out quickly all day.

"Really good pit stops today," Biffle said. "They did a lot of work in the pits."

More speeding penalties

Two drivers -- Tony Stewart and Dale Jarrett -- were caught speeding during the final round of pit stops.

Quotable

"I saw Greg Biffle come in and I said, next time we're coming, we're doing two (tires), let's do it. We ended up making that change." -- Kyle Busch, who finished second after taking two tires on the final pit stop
