Wallace scored his best Busch Series finish since 2002 with a second-place run on Saturday at Nashville Superspeedway, helping avenge a disappointing finish there last year.

Wallace had threatened to win at Nashville last June, but a botched pit stop sent him to 18th.

The mistake was one of the lowlights of Wallace's frustrating 2004 campaign, and after the season, he left Bill Davis Racing to join ppc Racing.

Wallace started slowly in 2005, but on Sunday, he led seven laps. He still finished nearly 15 seconds behind Reed Sorenson, who led all but 29 laps.

"My car was awesome. (Sorenson) was just the fastest Busch car that I've seen in a long time. He was incredible," Wallace said.

Still, it was Wallace's second top-10 of the year. Crew chief Wes Ward had prepared a new Ford for Wallace to use at Nashville, and it paid off, as he spent 223 of the 225 laps in the top 10.

"This has always been a great team. It didn't have the sponsor it needed last year and it kind a fell back a little bit. We came in with a good sponsor, and I'm just picking up where a lot of those guys left off," Wallace said.

"Wes Ward is going to get his second win here pretty soon."
