10 Questions: Greg Biffle

By Dave Rodman, NASCAR.COM

In conjunction with its season-ending top 10 lists, NASCAR.COM asked a number of drivers to answer the same 10 questions. Monday: Brendan Gaughan

Greg Biffle is in the midst of an off-season in which he can hardly wait for the 2005 Nextel Cup and Busch Series campaigns to start.

Biffle, 35, scored his second victory of the Nextel Cup season in his National Guard Ford in the season finale Ford 400 and also finished third in the Busch Series standings after running that entire schedule as well, in the Charter Ford.

Biffle sat down between the Christmas and New Year's holidays to answer 10 questions not specifically directed at his racing career.

1. What's your dream vehicle that you don't already own?

I've been wanting one for a long time, even though people are only now starting to take delivery of 'em, and that's the new Ford GT.

A lot of people know it as the GT-40, but its actual terminology of it is the Ford GT. They are absolutely awesome cars. I know that a couple people have gotten 'em and I know they're only producing a few hundred of 'em a year.

But I'm on the list to get one.

Have you had an opportunity to try one out?

Yeah, I drove one at the Ford proving grounds and I drove one when I did a Ford event so I've gotten to drive one twice and they're pretty awesome pieces.

What would be the biggest concern you'd have driving that as a street vehicle?

I mean, obviously, the same as everybody else -- getting the thing wrecked -- somebody rear ends you or you leave it in a parking lot and somebody happens to bump into it.

Because it's not a normal car, I mean that thing is going to be difficult to fix.

I tell you what, though -- I love the fact that you're patient, considerate and under control enough to not say that getting a ticket would be your biggest concern.

(Laughing) that would be one of my biggest concerns!

2. If time on the road weren't an issue, what would be your ideal pet?

I've got dogs right now and I absolutely love 'em. I've got two Boxers and I wouldn't trade the world for 'em.

3. What's your biggest pet peeve while driving on the road?

I think probably one of the biggest pet peeves I have is people stopping to make a right hand turn. You know, people stopping at a light to make a right hand turn when it's red and there's no traffic coming and they just sit there.

That's one of the ones that kills me the most, because they just don't go -- they sit there and come to a complete stop. Just be efficient about it.

Or the other thing that's great is the four-way stop, where the guy's stopped at the intersection and you're approaching it, and you're stopping. He waits until you get completely stopped, he's looking over at you -- like, 'who got here first?'

But you were completely stopped, sitting there while I was driving up. I mean, 'why not go?' (Laughing) we don't all have to be stopped at the intersection before somebody can go, you know?

If I do that -- pull up to an intersection and come to a complete stop at the four-way and they're sitting there stopped -- I'll just go again. And they'll start to go again and hit the brakes.

But they had plenty of opportunities. I think you need to be safe and to make sure that the guy's going to stop. But once you realized 'yeah, he's almost stopped -- well, I can go now.'

4. You travel a lot, so what's your worst hotel experience?

I think probably my worst hotel experience was in Watkins Glen, N.Y., when we were in a hotel and the thing -- oh, man, the odor in the room was so bad, like a musty, terrible smell.

I thought, 'I might be able to get over this if I go to the store and get some Febreeze or get something to spray in the room,' or whatever. And then I turned the water on and the water is just totally orange, you know, from the rust in the pipes, or whatever.

That was the last straw. I couldn't quite hack that, besides the other creatures that were in there. I had to (motivate) out of there.

5. What's your favorite food?

I'm kind of a steak and potatoes guy, but probably my most favorite, is macaroni and cheese. I've got a special spot for mac and cheese, but I'm a steak kind of a guy.

6. If you had to choose, would it be being honest, or being nice?

That's a fine line to walk, but I like to try and be honest.

7. What's your fondest childhood memory?

One that really sticks out that was probably one of my most exciting days, for me and my brother, was Christmas time, when my dad bought us motorcycles.

We used to have to unload the garbage cans out of the back of the truck after he had taken them to empty them all the time. He told us to go empty the garbage cans and we went out there to get them out -- we were all bummed out that we had to go outside and unload 'em.

And when we got outside to do it, there were two new motorcycles in the back of his truck for us. Man, that was an exciting day.

When were you able to actually go outside and ride 'em, though?

Then, we rode them all the time. Shoot, I'd come home from school and we'd go out riding.

OK, so up in the northwest snow wasn't always an issue at Christmas time, then?

No, not really. It's about the same as the Carolinas. I mean, maybe a little bit more snow than back here (East), but where we lived we were at a little bit lower of an elevation and maybe we got some snow here and there.

But then it wouldn't stay for like a month at a time or anything. Maybe, for about a week.

8. What would your dream date be? Where and with whom?

Man, that's a tough one. Whew -- I really don't know. I really enjoy Las Vegas, so I would have to say it might be there.

What would it be? Just having fun, having a good time. And with who (would it be)? Somebody beautiful, fun, outgoing -- that type of thing.

9. What's your worst prank, either perpetrated by you, or done to you?

Well, my memory's about shot. But the most recent one I can think of is probably not the best one in the world, is that we were on the road and we took one of the guy's beds at the hotel and we switched the box spring and mattress around and made the bed back, perfect.

It looked like it was untouched, the sheets were on it, and everything, but the box spring and mattress were reversed, so when he got into the bed, it was an awfully hard bed to sleep on.

This racing life is never easy, but in that case I hope he figured it out quickly?

Yeah, he did (laughing). But, you know what? When you get home, and it's midnight or whatever, and it was probably one of the crew guys so he was out at the bar doing whatever.

He gets home and it's 12 or 11 or 1 -- who knows what time? But then he's got to totally rebuild his whole bed, which is kind of a pain in the butt.

Wouldn't that have been a better prank to play the first night he was in the hotel? He might have just figured he was screwed with a crappy bed for as many nights as he was supposed to be there?

We did (laughing). But I think he figured it out when he jumped in there and the thing was like a piece of wood (laughing).

10. What would you consider your "Welcome to NASCAR" moment?

I'm not so sure about what would be my welcome to NASCAR -- but I know what it was when Mike Helton told me welcome, was when I won the 2000 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship.

Yeah, when he handed me that (championship) ring he basically told me 'welcome to the group.' There are not many people that have one of those.
