During January's Preseason Thunder testing at Daytona, Jason Leffler sat down to answer 10 questions not specifically directed at his racing career. 1. What's your dream vehicle that you don't already own? Leffler: Probably a Porsche 911 Turbo or something like that. It would be something really fast -- something I could get in trouble with on the road. 2. If time on the road weren't an issue, what would be your ideal pet? I've got 'em. I've got two yellow Labs and we take them on the road with us. But we keep them at home most of the time. They're great pets and the best dogs you could have. 3. What's your biggest pet peeve driving on the road? That's easy -- people in the fast lane going slowly. 4. Racing means travel, so what is your worst hotel experience? I've had quite a few, but I'd guess that my worst hotel experience would be not having one at all. When I was young, we were racing Quarter Midgets and we drove up until early morning to get to the racetrack and we got to the hotel and they didn't have any rooms -- so we had to sleep in the truck. We had to do that a few times and I think that was probably worse than having a bad hotel room. 5. What's your favorite food? Probably just chicken. Chicken and rice, nothing fancy -- just good old chicken. 6. If you had to choose, would it be being honest or being nice? Probably being honest. It's not always the best way to do it -- but at least you're honest. 7. What's your fondest childhood memory? Just my dad taking me to the racetrack, Ascot Park in Southern California. That was what got me involved in racing. I was five years old and from that point on I wanted to be a racecar driver. 8. What would be your dream date: Where and with whom? My dream date would have to be with my wife, Alison. And I don't know -- maybe Hawaii or somewhere like that. Have you been to Hawaii? Yeah, so I don't know where else to go. Maybe Australia? I've heard good things about it. How about New Zealand? New Zealand, yeah. We go there a lot to go Midget racing, so (that would work). 9. Racing and pranks seem to go hand-in-hand, so what's the worst prank that you either perpetrated or had played on you? You know, I don't really know. I get pranks all the time, and they mainly involve my height. Everybody thinks they're the first guy to come up with a short joke. I don't have any one in particular. 10. Finally, what would you consider your "Welcome to NASCAR moment?" Getting spun out by Glenn Allen Jr. in my very first Busch race, at IRP. That was kind of like, 'welcome to NASCAR (laughing).' They're not easy on you, are they? No -- it's a competitive business to be in, but things have turned around, so I can welcome someone else, now. |
