Riggs fights handling problems in Phoenix

Scott Riggs had his sights on a top-10 result in Saturday night's Subway Fresh 500k at Phoenix International Raceway. But severe handling problems with his CENTRIX Financial Chevrolet forced the sophomore driver to an 18th-place finish.

"We just never could get a hold of the track," said Riggs, who is 19th in driver points. "We kept trying to fix it but could never get the problem corrected. The CENTRIX Financial Chevrolet was tight from the beginning and we never got it freed up enough to make a charge."

Riggs started the 312-lap event from the 16th position and was confident the team could bring home a solid finish.

"We just underestimated how tight we were going to be," continued Riggs. "We were pretty happy with the way our car was running at the end of Happy Hour (final practice) and thought we'd bring home a top-10 or even top-five finish. But when the green flag dropped today the car wouldn't turn. The guys made all sorts of changes in the pits, but for some reason nothing worked.

"We head to Talladega next week and know we'll have a good car there. Hopefully we can follow up our fourth-place Daytona finish with another good run and get this team back on track."
