"It was just a tough race, not much else to say," offered Riggs, who started the event 29th. "We struggled all day. We just couldn't get through the center of the corner. We kept making adjustments that helped the Valvoline Chevy a little bit but nothing ever helped it as much as we needed it to." With 30 laps to go in the 200-lap event, Riggs looked to be breaking into the top 20. But a late caution spoiled the run. "When we went back for the restart after that final yellow everyone was on fresh tires and we were taking off trying to get going," Riggs explained. "With the car as tight as it was we just couldn't do anything. The way we adjusted the Valvoline Chevy trying to loosen it up made it so free that anytime anybody got on the outside of me they'd just shuffled our car right to the back. So that last caution certainly didn't help. "It was just a tough day for the Valvoline team. Luckily, I think we learned a lot. That's our only consolation." The Nextel Cup Series will compete at Infineon Raceway road course in Sonoma, Calif. next Sunday (June 26). The race will be broadcast live on FOX beginning with a pre-race show at 2:30 p.m. ET. |
