Tony Stewart Chase leader, finished seventh at Richmond "We had a solid night. We had a top-five night going all night, but we got a set of tires on that one pit stop -- I don't know if if was the right rear or the right sides -- but they weren't very good. So we had to come back in and put another set of tires on it and fixed it. It was right back to where it was before on that set. So we've had pretty good luck. I think that's the first set we've had that was off the whole year. I really have no complaints. I just wish it would have happened earlier in the race instead of later." "We haven't finished outside the top eight in three months now, so I'm really, really proud of the team and what we've been able to accomplish." "It was a pretty good run for us. It was pretty uneventful, really. We kept our track position and the car ran really well. It was the best car I've ever had here. We just had one mess-up on pit road. We lost a tire across pit road and to come from about 16th or 17th and worked our way back up. I'm pretty excited about running this well here. The car doesn't have any marks on it, so we're getting ready to take it to Loudon. Obviously, we feel it's one of our best cars. We were thinking it was going to be, so it turned out that way. I'm just excited to be in the Chase and excited to run third here." Rusty Wallace Third in Chase, finished fifth at RIR "That was a pretty good run for us. I had a good, solid car. Track position was real important. We decided to stay out with 70 to go and that worked out good for us. We had a good handling car all night and that was it." "It feels good to run like that for our last race at Richmond. I'm real happy. That was a good solid run. I had a fifth at Bristol at my favorite track and a fifth here, so we've been top-five and top-10ing them to death all year lone. That's what got us in the Chase. I feel good that I'm in the Chase and ready to run for the next 10 races." Jimmie Johnson Fourth in Chase, finished 25th at RIR How was your car in the race tonight? "The car was no good. You know, thankfully we had a strong start to the season where this last month we really didn't have to race our way in. It wouldn't have worked out for us. We came out of the box strong, we've got to get things turned around. There is a lot of hard work going into it all. We just haven't found the combination yet and we're working hard to find it." Kurt Busch fifth in Chase, won the race at RIR "This is something we've been looking forward to for many races -- Richmond. We wanted to get a good finish because it's bit us so many times before. I've respected this place because it's tough to win and we've had everything go wrong to take our chances away, but tonight there were just great pit stops -- smooth on the gas, smooth on the brakes. With the way we've been running this year on short tracks, this finally gets us a win on all of them. It's a great feeling and just an awesome run." Mark Martin Sixth in Chase, finished 13th at RIR "The car was pretty special. We did get one Lucky Dog, but we would never have gotten it if we didn't make a lap up on the race track against the 97 and all those guys. I'm pretty proud of our performance here tonight. I'm glad we had this tonight. Maybe we won't have the flat tire next week. I'm real proud of the performance. I thought the car was pretty strong, especially on the long runs and we didn't make too many people mad." Jeremy Mayfield Seventh in Chase, finished sixth at RIR "It feels good to get back in the Chase. I don't know what to tell you other than that. I'm really proud of those guys. They gave me good stuff all year. We just kept getting better and better. I'm just real proud of them and real happy and glad to be back in the Chase two years in a row. I wish we could have won, but we did what we had to do and we're looking at the big picture. Carl Edwards Eighth in Chase, finished 21st at RIR "The Scotts Winterizer Ford was really good early and then we had one bad run where we were really tight and went a lap down. That was petrifying for me. I saw it all kind of slipping away, especially with Ryan having a really good run and Jamie McMurray running really well. Obviously, Matt was running great, but we got it back together and got our lap back luckily and ended up finishing 21st. I'm just really pumped to be in this deal. This is going to make it a nice trip home tomorrow and to relax a bit." Matt Kenseth Ninth in Chase, finished second at RIR "I'm relieved, but more than relieved I'm excited. I'm excited for this whole DeWalt team. They did such a great job on pit road. They're the reason why we're here. We were way behind here a few months ago and they just kept digging and giving me better race cars. They were just killing everybody on pit road. It was awesome and they put us in position. I feel like we have some momentum. We're running really well. We didn't just sneak in. We still ran second here tonight and had a good run. I really think we can be a threat down the stretch." Ryan Newman 10th in Chase, finished 12th at RIR "That's pretty cool (making the Chase for the second straight year). I've got to thank everyone at Penske Racing. It wasn't the performance we wanted, but we got part of the main goal solved today. I look forward to these last 10 races. We'll keep working on this Dodge and see how we can do. I wish we were first instead of 10th, but maybe we can do that after 10 races." |
