KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Scott Riggs finished 30th in Sunday's Banquet 400 at Kansas Speedway. Riggs, who moved to a back-up Valvoline Chevrolet after cutting a left-front tire and making contact with the wall in Friday's practice session, started the Nextel Cup event 41st. | | ALSO | |

"The Valvoline Chevy just wouldn't do what we wanted it to today," said Riggs. "We brought a brand new car here this weekend and were confident it was one of our best pieces. Wrecking that early in the weekend and having to move to a another car really put us behind the eight ball." "History told us our back-up Chevy wasn't going to be nearly as strong as the primary we brought," continued Riggs. "We knew it was going to be a tough task to make the car work well in the race, especially after qualifying so far back. We just struggled along and tried to get the best finish we could." Riggs said the team tossed numerous changes at the Valvoline machine, but nothing seemed to work. "We made a lot of adjustments," he said. "Some helped, some didn't. But none of them put us where we wanted to be. "I'm proud of all the guys on the team for working hard, and trying hard-- nobody gave up and that's important. I just hate we lost our brand new car on the first lap of practice Friday- hopefully we'll be able to do better next week." The next event for the Valvoline team will be Saturday night (Oct. 15) at Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte. |
