MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Scott Riggs finished 24th in Sunday's Subway 500 at Martinsville Speedway.

Riggs and the Valvoline team started the event 26th but were never able to find the right combination to mount a charge in the 500-lap short track event.

"The car was decent all day," said Riggs. "We ran some good lap times but just weren't quite where we needed to be in order to pick our way through the field. We kept making changes to the Valvoline Chevy but I think it needed some pretty big overall adjustments and we weren't able to do that during the pit stops."

"Our plan for today was to stay on the lead lap and avoid all the wrecks," continued Riggs. "We were able to keep out of trouble, but late in the race we lost a lap on a green flag run and couldn't do much from there. It wasn't the finish we'd hoped for. We've got four races to go this season and we want to end on a positive note."

The NEXTEL Cup Series will head to Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday (Oct. 30) for the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500. The race will be broadcast on NBC beginning at Noon ET.
