Press Release March 17, 2005 02:54 PM EST (19:54 GMT)
Goody's Headache Powders is giving race fans a chance to make their voices heard. Beginning with the March 12 Sam's Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series race in Las Vegas and continuing throughout the season, fans can vote online at www.goodyspowder.com for the driver they think should earn the Goody's "Headache of the Race Award." The Goody's Headache Powders "Headache of the Race Award" is presented after each NASCAR Busch Series race to the driver who experienced the worst luck of the day -- like blowing an engine, cutting a tire, being caught up in a wreck, or running out of fuel. For nearly 20 years the award has been decided by the media, but now race fans will have the say-so -- and a chance to win prizes. On race days, fans can go to www.goodyspowder.com and select the "Goody's Headache of the Race" banner to register and view a list of drivers qualified for the event. Fans vote for the driver they think deserves the award by clicking on the driver's name. Voting is open from the waving of the green flag until two hours after the checkered flag is thrown. While only one vote per fan per race counts, fans can change their ballot throughout the voting period if they feel another driver becomes more deserving of the award. The web site will show real-time results and the winner will be announced on the web site and during the radio broadcast of the following race. The winning driver receives a check for $250; and a check for $250 in the driver's name is given to Victory Junction Gang Camp, the retreat for seriously ill children and their families founded by Kyle and Pattie Petty and actor Paul Newman. Each week one lucky voter will win a Goody's racing cap. The winner will be announced during the radio broadcast of the following race. Also, each time a person votes, their name will be entered into the grand prize drawing; so fans who vote each week will increase their chances of winning. At the end of the season, one voter will win a Richard Petty Driving Experience, where they will get behind the wheel of a real stock car and experience the thrill of piloting the 3,400-pound machine around a track where NASCAR's best have raced. "These days race fans are always looking for a way to be closer to the action," said Alan McKirby, Goody's Headache Powders senior brand manager. "Giving them the opportunity to choose the Goody's 'Headache of the Race Award' winner online allows them to be a part of actual race day happenings. And the fan who wins the grand prize will really feel close to the action while taking laps in one of the Richard Petty Driving Experience cars." Voting begins at the green flag of the Sam's Town 300 NASCAR Busch Series race in Las Vegas on March 12. Go to www.goodyspowder.com for details and to vote for the Goody's "Headache of the Race Award."
