The Kasey Kahne Foundation has teamed up with the Congenital Heart Defect Awareness Quilt Project to give 6-year-old David Mundt a day to remember. David was born with a congenital heart defect and underwent open heart surgery at five months. CHDs are among the most common birth defects and the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths. The CHD Awareness Quilt Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting public awareness of children born with CHDs, provides emotional support to the families of those patients and encourages continued research in the field of congenital heart defects. Earlier this season, Kahne, driver of the No.9 Dodge Charger, had sent some autographed items to Mundt and after learning more about the youngster and hearing that he was a big fan, decided he wanted to do something really special for David. This past Sept. 6, Mundt shared center stage with Kahne during Kasey Kahne Day in Enumclaw, Wash. David was recognized as a special VIP for the day and walked through downtown Enumclaw with Kahne, as fans lined the streets of the driver's hometown. That same day, Shannon Adams also announced the formation of the Kasey Kahne Foundation, which provides financial support to charitable organizations geared toward helping ill and underprivileged children and their families. The CHD Awareness Quilt Project has expressed its appreciation to Kahne for taking the time and making the effort to help make a wish come true for David Mundt and his family. |
