Lap 75: Green flag. Tony Stewart leads. Boris Said gets a terrible restart. Meanwhile, Michael Waltrip tells NBC he looks forward to the day when Kasey Kahne needs an inch. Lap 72: Caution: Michael Waltrip hits the wall after contact with Kasey Kahne just before the inner loop. Ron Fellows is the lucky dog. Lap 66: Casey Mears misses the inner loop. Travis Kvapil has smoke coming out of the back of his No. 77 Dodge. Boris Said to second. Ryan Newman, who restarted second, is 22nd. Lap 62: Green flag. Tony Stewart leads. Newman pulls over since he has just first and fourth gear. Jeff Gordon restarted at the end of the lead line for pitting when pit road was closed. Lap 61: Tony Stewart back to the lead. Lap 58: Caution: Greg Biffle to the garage after his transmission failed. Jeff Gordon also to pit road, but it was after the caution. Lap 57: Leader Jimmie Johnson heads to pit road for a four-tire stop. Jorge Goeters is the leader. Lap 56: Tony Stewart has clinched the laps led bonus. He's to pit road for a four-tire stop. Dale Earnhardt Jr. also hits pit road. Jimmie Johnson is the race leader. Lap 56: Robby Gordon heads to pit road for what the team says is its final stop. They say they need two laps of caution. Lap 55: Jamie McMurray, Mark Martin and Rusty Wallace head to pit road. McMurray stalls the car exiting pit road. Lap 52: Casey Mears penalized after his pit stop. Too fast exiting is the call. Lap 48: Kurt Busch returns to the track, nine laps down. Lap 46: Jimmie Johnson passes Jeff Gordon as Gordon complains of a flat left front. Busch says he believed he had a flat tire. However, it appears he has a broken sway bar. Lap 34: Green flag. Tony Stewart leads with Jeff Gordon second. Lap 32: Caution: Jeff Burton hits the guardrail hard after touching the rumble strips in Turn 1. Dale Jarrett is the Lucky Dog. Ryan Newman is back in so his team can check its brake line. Lap 28: Tony Stewart passes Michael Waltrip to re-take the race lead. Lap 28: Green flag. Michael Waltrip, who pitted on Lap 12, leads. Lap 27: Greg Biffle is sent to the end of the longest line for a fueling penalty. The catchcan man was not attached to the catchcan for the second tank. Lap 26: Leader Rooby Gordon heads to pit road along with Greg Biffle. Meanwhile, Ryan Newman is complaining of a brake problem. Newman heads to pit road and the team has the hood up. Lap 25: Caution: Dale Jarrett hits the wall after contact with Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jarrett falls a lap down. Lap 25: Leader Jeff Gordon pits, giving the lead to Robby Gordon. Ricky Rudd also pits, saying the car is running warm. Lap 24: Jimmie Johnson to pit road. Says the car is loose. Jeff Gordon takes the lead. Lap 23: Leader Tony Stewart heads to pit road for four tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment, giving the lead to Jimmie Johnson. Rusty Wallace and Brian Vickers also in. Lap 22: Mark Martin and Dale Earnhardt Jr. head to pit road along with Kyle Busch. Lap 20: Jeremy Mayfield heads to pit road for a scheduled stop. Lap 16: Greg Biffle is well off the pace briefly, but it has returned to speed. Meanwhile, Jeff Burton is to pit road, as the 31 team is playing some fuel strategy early. Lap 14: Jeff Gordon, who started 12th, passes Rusty Wallace for fifth. Lap 12: Leaders decide to stay out. Kevin Harvick (11th place) is the first car to stop. He also stalls the car exiting. Lap 11: Robby Gordon's charge continues. After starting 37th, Gordon is now 19th. Lap 10: Full-course caution as P. J. Jones and Boris Said make contact in the inner loop. Lap 8: Tony Stewart is in another world. His lead on second-place Jimmie Johnson is 3.3 seconds. Lap 7: Robby Gordon gets a bit off-course, but loses no positions. Lap 4: Robby Gordon is charging through the field, much like he did Saturday. Gordon started 37th, he's now 25th. Lap 2: Tony Stewart keeps the lead through the opening lap. 1:41 p.m.: Green flag, Tony Stewart leads 1:41 p.m.: There is a Lucky Dog this year at Wakins Glen, unlike last year. 1:36 p.m.: NBC gives us a look at Tony Stewart's post-race celebration. Scott Pruett will move the No. 40 to the back for the driver change. 1:28 p.m.: Bobsledding silver medalist Todd Hays visits "Wally's World." Hays says it's the lateral Gs that will really get you. 1:27 p.m.: Out of nowhere, Shannon Sharpe gives the field the command to start engines. We predict that he will announce plans to start his own NASCAR team by the end of the week. 1:23 p.m.: NBC alerts us that Tony Stewart is "Spiderman 20." Uh ... OK. 1:19 p.m.: Country music artist Billy Joe Schaffer performs the U.S. national anthem. 1:16 p.m.: Seemingly in honor of Ron Fellows, Lindsay Quinn performs the Canadian national anthem. 1:12 p.m.: Happy 49th birthday, Rusty Wallace. And here we forgot to send him a card. 1:06 p.m.: A tribute to Coo Coo Marlin is played on NBC. NASCAR.COM sends its heartfelt condolences to the Marlins on their loss. 1:03 p.m.: Tony Stewart says he couldn't have a better car than he has today. Trouble for everyone else. 12:57 p.m.: The green flag time has been moved up to 1:35 p.m. ET for fear of rain in Watkins Glen. The pre-race show will be cut short as a result. |
