• Ryan Pemberton: The shocks used by the Nos. 5 and 48 at Dover were unquestionably legal. ... However, NASCAR nonetheless felt the need to issue a new bulletin on shock pressures.

• Mike Helton: For the 2006 Daytona 500, there will be no significant changes to restrictor-plate racing, but bump-drafting "may have gone too far."

• Ryan Newman, who qualified 11th, will start at the back of the pack. The No. 12 team changed the car's transmission and reportedly had an issue with the left-front fender height during technical inspection. ... Kasey Kahne (backup car) and Denny Hamlin (qualified seventh) also are moved to the back of the field.
