TLC's Overhaulin' team returns for third season

July 19, 2005
11:26 AM EDT (15:26 GMT)

Taking a joyride has never been so much fun! When a husband's junker in the backyard mysteriously disappears ... When a brother's trashy clunker gets towed away ... When a co-worker goes to the employee parking lot and discovers his vintage car missing ... They've all been overhauled! OVERHAULIN', the hit series that tricks car owners and tricks out their cars, returns to TLC for a third season, beginning Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 9 PM (ET/PT).

Host Chris Jacobs doubles as a repo man, tow truck driver and other pranksters to lure the keys away from the unsuspecting car owner, while auto designing legend Chip Foose and his crack team of fabricators and engineers perform surgery on the vehicle. With the help of an accomplice (the owner's father, son, girlfriend or co-worker, for example), the OVERHAULIN' team finds a creative way to separate the car from its owner - whether through a fake impound, photo shoot, or other means. During the week, the team then guts, refurbishes, renovates and paints the owner's bland or junky auto into a unique custom car, turning it from "Christine" to pristine!

The OVERHAULIN' cameras follow the twists and turns of the parallel process of both keeping the car away from its (sometimes surly!) owner - and the creative ways Chris manages to do it - while following the renovation process of the vehicle. As the car owner is inevitably fretting about the car's whereabouts and its safe return home - captured on tape - viewers will get an insider's treat when auto guru Chip Foose leads them through the vehicle's transformation, revealing his intricate designs and explaining the build.

And with the help of an accomplice, OVERHAULIN' learns what specific customizations will make the owner truly love his or her new wheels. In the final stretch of the program, the secret is finally revealed to the owner and the keys to the new set of wheels are returned. Will they hate or love it? All that's left is to get behind the wheel and drive off into the sunset, right?
