Collectibles Q&A

NASCAR memoribilia collectors often have questions about the items they've accumulated. Here are our responses to some of your most recent inquiries:

Q: I have a 1999 Rusty Wallace Miller Lite 1:12 scale IPM porcelain Artist's Proof No. 1 (not "1 of" but No. 1 of 40, all packaged in original paper, decorative box and factory "shipping" outer box. I also have a 1989 Rusty Wallace 1:18 ERTL numbered Kodiak car. Can you give a current value for these? - Scranton Dan

A: The porcelain car is a really neat piece. It would be worth a lot except for the fact that these cars never really caught on with collectors, which is why IPM isn't around anymore. Still, I'd place the value in the $300-400 range. The Ertl car was produced in 1995. It is likely worth $150-160.

Q: I have an authentic Rockingham hat that was given to me. It is still tagged, mint condition. Just curious of it's value?- Jeff

A: Dropping Rockingham from the schedule is still one of my pet peeves. This cap is probably only worth $15-20 now. But in the future, say 20 years from now, it could be a very valuable collectible.

Q: I have a Richard Petty race car door. It was from his 1,000th start at Michigan and is autographed by Richard, Linda and Kyle. The door is off the car from a wreck. Some of the autographs are slightly faded but Richard's is completely intact. I do not have a certification letter, but do have a video tape of the race. Can you help me with an idea of the value? - Jennifer

A: A great piece of sheet metal here. Doors are one of the most collectible examples of sheet metal. The significance of the race and the autographs make this one especially desirable. Personally, I'd place the value in the $800-1250 range.

Q: I have a six pack of Jeff Gordon Coca-Cola bottles from 1995. Do you know what they are worth? - J. Sohl

A: This should be the one of the earliest Gordon bottles. A six pack should be worth $25-30.

Q: I have a 50th Anniversary Action Jeff Gordon Limited Edition 1:24 ChromaLusion die-cast car. It is out of the box, but I still have the box and the car has just sat on display. It is still in mint condition. Can you tell me the approximate value of this item? - Frank W.

A: This 1998 die-cast was produced back in the days when running a special paint scheme was still a novelty. Hence, it is one of the better Gordon cars. It is probably worth $125-150. If you have the Mac Tools version, add another 40-50 bucks to that.

Q: I have a 1988 Winston poster with 20 drivers. Every one autographed it. What is it worth? - Billy

A: The poster alone-providing it isn't a reprint-is worth about $75. If the autographs are hand-signed, and not printed, you can add another $200-300 to the

Q: I have a wall clock with Dale Earnhardt on it. The name of the clock is "Intimidating to Extreme". It is one of 7,500 made. It was made in 1999. The Certificate of the Authenticity has the number 0491 on it. The certficate states that the clock is a presentation of "Motorsports Editions in association with JEBCO clocks and was licensed by Dale Earnhardt, Inc. I believe I paid $50 for it in 2000, I am interested in finding out if the value has increased since then. - Sherri

A: Indeed it has. Your clock should hold a current value of $100-150.

Q: I have a 1997 Action Dale Darnhardt No. 3 AC Delco Suzuka Circuit 1:24 scale Monte Carlo bank. How much is it worth now? - kypartyman

A: This is a bank you seldom see on the secondary market anymore. I'd place the value in the $130-140 range, perhaps more to the right collector.

Q: I have a Super Collectors Set of J.D. McDuffie. It includes a transporter, three cars and one collector card. I also have a poster from Alan Kulwicki Championship with Bill Elliot and Davey Allisons cars behind his. Could you give me a value? - George

A: The Racing Champions McDuffie set consisted of 1:64, 1:43, and 1:24 scale cars and a 1:64 scale transporter. I'd put the current value at around $35. The Kulwicki poster is probably valued at around $20.
