NASCAR memorabilia collectors often have questions about the items they've accumulated. Here are our responses to some of your most recent inquiries: Q: I have two 1991 Rob Moroso MAXX trading cards. Do you know anything about these cards value? -- Justmeinten A: The death of Rob Moroso in a highway accident was one of NASCAR's great tragedies. Rob was one of the sports great natural talents, and it's hard to tell how many wins and championships he'd have by now. The entire 1991 MAXX set was pretty much overproduced, which hurts the value of all cards in the set. The Moroso cards are very common, and therefore worth less than 50 cents each. Q: I would like to know the value of an autographed MAXX NASCAR Official card by Ray Hill from around 1990, (could be a couple of years earlier or later). This has his picture, bio, and number 218 on the back. -- Debbie L'Huillier | | EMAIL | Got a collectible question? Email us!

A: Ray Hill and his brother Carl were mainstays the NASCAR staff for many years. This is a common card, and the signature of an official would carry less value than that of a driver. It is probably worth around $5-8. Q: I was wondering about the value of a 1989 No. 6 Mark Martin MAXX card. On it, he is wearing a blue Stroh Light racing suit. -- Steuber A: That's actually a pretty good card. In perfect condition, it should be worth around $10, give or take a buck or two. Q: I would like to know if anyone is familiar with the 2001 Oreo car that is clear. They made 6000 of them. I would like to know the value. -- EP A: A good piece here. The value should fall in the $250-300 range. Q: I have a Sports Marketing Inc. 24" x 40" plaque/picture of the May 16, 1992 Winston Cup Race under the lights with all the drivers pictures on it. Is it of any value? -- Antonella Wiggett A: It sounds to me like what you have is a framed Winston poster. RJ Reynolds released one each year to commemorate NASCAR's All Star race back when Winston was the title sponsor. Providing your poster is an original and not a reprint, the value would be $30-50. Q: I have a professionally matted, framed and artist signed lithograph print (315 of 750) of Alan Kulwicki done in 1993 by artist Marsha Donahue. This print measures 24 1/2" wide by 19" tall with overall framed measurements of 30 1/2" x 25". When I visited the Motorsports Hall of Fame at Talladega in 1998, one of these prints (possibly the original) was on display. The print depicts Kulwicki (in a Hooters uniform) in a pose with a checkered flag to his right and the Hooters race car followed by three others to his left. Print, matting and frame are in excellent condition. Can you give me a ballpark figure as to what this item might be worth? -- LeftOnly A: Fine art prints hold their values better than just about any other type of racing collectible. Of course, this print would be worth more if it had been published by one of the "Big Three" of NASCAR art: Sam Bass, Garry Hill, or Jeanne Barnes. But it is still an immaculate piece of artwork. I'd place the value in the $300-350 range. It would be worth much more to a die-hard AK collector. Q: I have an unopened set of HI-TECH 1993 Brickyard 400 Preview cards. What is the value? -- J.D. Kimple A: Three cards comprised this set, which is actually known as the 1994 Hi-Tech Prototype set. They featured the cars of Richard Petty, Jeff Gordon and Kyle Petty. The set is worth $5-8. A 10-card 1993 Tire Test set was also issued. That set is worth $5-8 also. Q: Can you offer us a value on a right front tire used by Dale Earnhardt in the Daytona 500 in 1998? -- John Wiant A: I cringe everytime I'm asked to appraise a rece-used tire because they are so hard to authenticate. If you can verify beyond the shadow of a doubt that this tire was used by Earnhardt during his "500" win, I'd place the value at around $200-250, much more to the right person. Otherwise, I'd say it's worth $30-50. Q: I am looking for a value on a Dale Earnhardt sets. It is a 1993 Brookfield Collector's Guild racing team crew cab truck and trailer with No. 3 Goodwrench Lumina. It is not the black and silver trailer and crew cab but the dealer incentive with the all silver trailer and crew cab. It's in the original unopened box with no damage except the wear marks from shipping. It says 40,000 made but that was the count of the black and silver sets. -- Gary Barres A: Gary, the guys who started Brookfield were some sharp cookies. The dealer incentive program was an awesome concept. I'm really surprised it wasn't used more often by other manufacturers. You have a great piece here. Even though-like most other die-cast--its value has dropped off some in recent years, I'd still say this should be a $250-325 piece in terms of collectibility. Q: I have a 1:24 scale 1996 Jeff Gordon car in case, no box. It has Coca-Cola on the trunk. It has "Darlington 2nd Win" on the roof, and it has 1 of 2424 on the stand. What is it worth? -- Brian A: A great Racing Champions car here. Racing Champions turned out some great Gordon pieces during the early years of his career. The brand also produced similar pieces commemorating wins at Bristol and Pocono. This is easily a $75-100 collectible. |
