Collectibles Q&A

NASCAR memorabilia collectors often have questions about the items they've accumulated. Here are our responses to some of your most recent inquiries:

Q: When I went to the Daytona 500 in 1991, I waited in line for a few driver autographs: Ernie Irvan, Sterling Marlin, Chad Little, Bobby Hamilton and my favorite driver, Davey Allison. He was out of the standard cards the drivers had, so he signed The Racing for Kids magazine on the front. It has a picture of him holding his baby and his wife standing by them. I saved the tickets for the race and I have all the other autographs from the other drivers two signatures each; one on a sheet of paper and one on the drivers cards and one on the magazine. What are they worth? -- Dameon

Please remember to be specific when describing a collectible -- manufacturer, year, etc. Limit your questions to two and check our archives before submitting an inquiry.

A: In terms of collectibility, I'd say Davey's autograph would be worth $75-125. The others should be worth $20-35.

Q: In 2002, I bought a Terry Labonte Kellogg's 1:24 scale car made by Racing Champions. It came with a collector card with tire rubber on it. I haven't been able to find a book that shows the value of the car. Can you help? -- Chuck Bell.

A: As far as a collectible value, this car should be worth around $50, give or take 10 bucks.

Q: I currently own the one and only PSA/DNA Certified PSA 10 Gem Mint 1992 Traks Autograph card No. A1 of Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt. Do you have any idea on what it's value might be?-RJL

A: Ungraded in mint condition, I think the card would be worth $200-225. Personally, I'd add another $50-100 for the Certified grading. And it may be worth even more to a die-hard collector.

Q: I have a 1:64 scale collectable Jeff Gordon Sesame Street car made in 2002. it is the first made out of 17,424. How much is it worth if it has never been opened?-- Joe

A: This car was punctuated by the image of Elmo. Mint in the package, it's worth $18-20.

Q: I have a 1995 Classic Dale Earnhardt card that has Daytona 500 1995 written in gold on the front and says Standout Drivers in the left hand top corner. This card is a punchout and the back has SD1 in the left hand top corner and Finish Line Racing in the right hand bottom corner. I can't find any info on this card. Is it worth anything? Its not been punched out and is in mint condition. -- Jenny

A: This is the most valuable card in this 10-card offering. It is worth $10-15.

Q: I have a 1995 Racing Champions Premier Edition 1:64 scale NASCAR Supertruck Series Jeff Gordon No. 24 with Rick Hendrick and Jeff Gordon pictured on a card. What is the value? -- Rbaranski

A: Actually, this collectible depicts Gordon and Hendrick as the truck owners. It is worth $5-8.

Q: I have a Dale Earnhardt Sr. 1990 "The Winston" 1991 MAXX card. He's holding the Winston trophy, and his firesuit is white with Goodwrench on Black strips. It is No. 179 of 240. It was also dated 5/20/90. Is it worth anything? -- Casey Satterlee

A: Very common card in a set that was way overproduced. Its value is about a buck.

Q: I have a Frost Cutlery 4" Dale Earnhardt/Richard Petty 7 Time Champion knife. It is a bone color with a picture of Earnhardt and Petty, in the middle. It shas both signatures and dates of their championships. It is in a box, the number 546 is on the end of the handle. Can you tell me its worth? -- Dale

A: This is a nice lockblade knife worth around $75.

Q: I have a 1995 Dale Earnhardt 1:18 scale Ertl Collectibles Goodwrench Monte Carlo. I was wondering if you might be able to tell me its current market value.-Ken

A: Ertl did some nice Earnhardt pieces back in the early-to-mid 1990s.. This one should be worth about $125, give or take $25.

Q: I have a set of 15 NASCAR signature mini helmets in a case and would like to know what it is worth. It is the first series and has Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr with open face helmet, and 13 other helmets. I was told they went for $25-$30 separately. But these are in a hard plastic case and says limit 1st addition signature series nade by Simpson, and Dale was in the middle. What are they worth?-- MJ Restly

A: These are nice collectibles, but most have shown little or no appreciation in value since their release. They'd probably be worth more individually than in a set, with the Earnhardt helmet being worth two or three times as much as the others. I'd place the collectible value of the set at $200-300.
