NASCAR memorabilia collectors often have questions about the items they've accumulated. Here are our responses to some of your most recent inquiries: Q: I have a complete set of 12 Legends of Racing 1:43 scale cars from 1992. All serial numbers match and it is set No. 00002/18000. When I purchased the set, I was told that the first 12 sets went to the drivers featured in the set (or their families, in the case of Curtis Turner and Fireball Roberts), and this particular set belonged to Jim Vandiver. Any idea as to the value?--M&K Phillips | | EMAIL | Got a collectible question? Email us!

A: Very nice set and very low number in the series. Jim Vandiver is a good friend of mine, and I'm sure you know that his son Emory, with Jim's help, put this set together. The cars were resin cast and offered in both true-to-life paint schemes and gold-plated versions. The 18,000-piece run was the actual paint job version. With the softening of the market, the values of these cars have taken a bit of a hit in recent years. But based on the low serial number, I'd say your set is likely worth $150-200 in terms of collectibility. Q: I am trying to find the value of an Action Dale Earnhardt 2000 Monte Carlo gold plated 1:24 die-cast car. It is still in the box and has never been opened.-Penelope A: This is the car that was available from QVC. There were 2000 produced. It is worth $350-400 in mint condition. Q: I have a 1991 Pro Set card. It is the Winston Cup Trophy Hologram card. It is in near mint condition and hand-numbered on the back 293 of 5000. In an old Racing Collectibles Price Guide (Vol.3 No. 1, January 1992) it reflects the price of a Winston Cup Hologram as $500. Can you advise what they sell for today?-Larry A: Larry, those were the good old days. The card market has changed a lot since then. Today, that card in mint condition is worth $50-75. Q: What is the value of the unopened 1998 Goodwrench Service Plus/Bass Pro Shops 1:24 scale die cast replica?--Renee Wilhite A: If it is the standard ARC version, it is likely worth $125-175. Q: I have two Racing Champions 1:24 scale die-cast replicas. both Platinum and 24K Gold John Deere. They are both 1 of 4999, Platinum one is issue No. 11 and the gold is issue No. 4. Could you tell me how much they are worth? Neither one has ever left the box, and both boxes are in pristine condition.--Luck OvD Irish A: Both replicas of Chad Little's No. 97 Taurus are valued at $25-40. Q: I have a set of just Darrell Waltrip metal cards by Card Dynamics, First Edition, nos. 1-5. I can only find sets with different drivers. My set has only Waltrip can you tell me anything about it?-- Connie Rodgers A: This set was released in 1992. There were 4000 sets produced. They're worth $20-25 per set. Q: I have a 1993 Traks Premium WC Rookie of the Year No. 36 card of Jeff Gordon. Could you tell me what the value is?-Rwagaman A: Worth more than common cards from the 1993 set, but this card is still only valued at $1-2. Q: I have a 1997 Pinnacle Dale Earnhardt Purple Artist Proof. The book says its 1of 600. Any ideas of what it's truly worth?-Rharrison A: The rare 100 Purple Artist's Proofs were inserted at a ration of 1:620. I'd place the collectible value of the Earnhardt card at $50-70. Q: I have a 1995 (1 of 5000) Brookfield Richard Petty and Dale Earnhart crew cab and trailer in the box. It is in great condition has each of their pictures and the years each of them won seven races. What is it worth?--Dianne A: The Petty and Earnhardt 7&7 set has was created to commemorate their seven championships, not years they each won seven races. It is valued at $100-150. Q: I just came into a set of Kelloggs Corn Flakes boxes sealed together in an outer box that has not been opened. These two boxes are from 1992 and feature Richard petty. Is there any idea what this set of intact and perfectly preserved cereal boxes would be worth?--doodles803 A: Wow! You don't see many of these Jumbo boxes around anymore. This two-box combo set should be worth $40-60. |
