Pit Story of the Race

Jeff Burton openly admitted on Sunday that he sped down pit road at Loudon because he was trying to gain the minute advantage needed to win.

Burton was busted speeding on Lap 81 while trying to enter pit road during the Lenox Industrial Tools 300, ruining a sure top-five finish.

"This is the second time this year I have done it. I think that's about the fourth time in my career I've gotten caught speeding," said Burton. "We bumped our pit road speed to be more competitive on pit road.

"We just have to back it down some. It was a great car. That's just hurt us and we played catch-up all day after that. We were three laps down and came back and finished seventh. I can't complain about that."

Busch's move a gutsy one

Kyle Busch had a lot to lose by running the last 98 laps on a tank of gas. Unlike Elliott Sadler -- who ran out of gas with two laps to go -- Busch is on the bubble to make the Chase for the Nextel Cup.

Sadler wound up 25th, but Busch's victory moved him to fourth in the standings, all but assuring a spot in the Chase.

Busch said he might not have won had NASCAR taken more time to clean the track during the rash of late cautions.

"NASCAR did a great job on getting the track ready to go," said Busch. "I called for that sweeper truck there when [Clint Bowyer] wrecked. There was a bunch of stuff on the back straightaway there. They got that done in one lap, which was good."

Gutsy move, Part 2

Kevin Harvick -- another driver on the Chase bubble -- mirrored Busch by gambling on fuel.

"I said to [crew chief Berrier] Todd, 'We should have pitted,' and he said," Aw, you'll be alright. See what you can get,'" Harvick said. "I got back up there and everything worked out really good."

Quotable

"Correct. They just told me to conserve as much as I could, and [crew chief Brown] Wally was being real quiet, so I didn't know how close we were." -- Carl Edwards, who finished second
