Bobby Hamilton Racing has a championship legacy in the Craftsman Truck Series. Team owner Bobby Hamilton, the 2004 Truck Series champion, sees no limits when it comes to being competitive on the racetrack; such as fielding four trucks this weekend in the John Deere 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Besides driving his own No. 18 Dodge, he oversees the operation for drivers Timothy Peters (No. 4), Scott Lagasse Jr. (No. 04) and the son Bobby Hamilton Jr. (No. 08). 1. What is the one thing your fans don't know about you? Bobby Hamilton: It's how soft-hearted I am. Everybody thinks I'm this big bully and stuff, I'm cocky or I don't say a lot, you know? One time, back in the Cup Series, they asked us who would you not want to walk into a dark alley up against -- not knowing anything about 'em? And most of the people said "Bobby Hamilton." And I'm like, "Do I put that air off?" Dale (Earnhardt) said it; Bobby Labonte said it and a few others did. But really, I'm just a good ol' guy. 2. What's the most embarrassing moment you'll own up to -- either in or out of racing? Bobby Hamilton: Oh, for me, that's easy. I was doing an interview on TV one time and a pair of panties -- pink ones -- was stuck to my driver's suit from static electricity, because it had just come out of the dryer. No doubt, that was my most embarrassing thing. And nobody told me, so it was on TV. It was great. Timothy Peters: It would probably be the time I walked out of the bathroom at a racetrack, and had just got done doing No. 2 and walked out of the bathroom with toilet paper stuck to my foot, and I didn't know it. Bobby Hamilton: Did you have No. 2 on the toilet paper? 3. When was the last time any of you got a traffic ticket, and what was it for? Bobby Hamilton Jr.: Two weeks ago, for speeding. It was for 50 (mph) in a 30 (mph zone). Bobby Hamilton: I haven't had one in years -- years. Timothy Peters: Mine was a year ago, on January first of 2004. For speeding. Scott Lagasse Jr.: It's been a while for a speeding ticket, and I guess this is kind of embarrassing -- but I got a seat-belt ticket one time from a bike cop, in a parking lot. 4. If someone played you guys in a movie, who would you pick to play your role? And who would be your leading lady? Bobby Hamilton Jr.: It would have to be John Holmes (no word on the leading lady). Bobby Hamilton: Mine would be Clint Eastwood, hands down. And Sandra Bullock would be my leading lady. Timothy Peters: I'm going to have to say Eddie Murphy. My leading lady would have to be Pamela Anderson. Scott Lagasse Jr.: Probably Nicolas Cage, and Angelina Jolie, because I've got a little thing for her, so she'd be the one. 5: Who's the most impressive celebrity, or even a regular person you've had the chance to meet? Bobby Hamilton: Richard Petty, hands down. And the reason is just honesty. Well, not necessarily honesty -- I'm trying to think of another word to say he won't -- well, I can't say that. I mean, he's not a thief, or anything like that; but he's just very blatant, he has good points (to offer) about life in general and people in general. He's very simplified, but you can talk to him for 30 minutes and learn a boatload. I mean, that's the way he handles everyday life. Bobby Hamilton Jr.: I'm going to go with someone that, I know a lot of people don't like him, but after talking to him on a lot of different stuff, it's Tony Stewart. He's about the same as the way dad describes Richard. I never had the chance to hang around with "The King" a lot, but Tony is just kind of himself, whether you like it or not, and he tells you how he's going to do things, whether you like it or not. And he just goes -- and I kind of respect that. Timothy Peters: I'm going to have to say Bobby, because you don't have to be different in front of him. And he gave me a job. Scott Lagasse Jr.: It would probably be Denzel Washington. I mean, I didn't really spend a lot of time with him, but he was pretty cool. We were in the (Florida) Keys with some buddies, fishing and stuff, and we just came upon a sandbar, with a bunch of people just hanging out and drinking, and he was just drinking and partying, you know? It didn't matter to him -- he was just a regular dude. I figured somebody like that would be kind of arrogant, but he wasn't, at all. 6: What's in each of your CD players? Bobby Hamilton: Kenny Rogers. I'm pretty versatile, but Kenny Rogers, right now. Bobby Hamilton Jr.: Elmo (pointing to his daughter, Haylie, rumbling around the lounge). That's the only thing I get to listen to. Timothy Peters: If my CD player worked in my truck, probably some 50 Cent. 7. Which prime vacation spot have you guys not visited yet? Bobby Hamilton: You can put Hawaii down because I haven't been anywhere. I went to Vail once. My vacation is going to Pigeon Forge or something. I just haven't ever had the chance, so you can put Hawaii -- that's good. I've always wanted to go there. Bobby Hamilton Jr.: It would be Hawaii for me, too. Stephanie, my wife has made me aware of it so that's where we'd like to go. Timothy Peters: I want to go to Cancun for MTV Spring Break. I don't know what the race schedule is about then -- I'll probably be somewhere else. But it'd be nice to go to that beach. Scott Lagasse Jr.: It'd be Costa Rica for me. I haven't been out of the country but once, so I'd like to go there. It's just kind of rural. We've got some friends that have been down there and it seems like it's pretty low key, so it would good to just go down there and kind of chill. 8. What is your No. 1 guilty pleasure? Bobby Hamilton: Honestly, this is corny, but it's chocolate. I eat chocolate in the morning, I eat it at lunch, I eat it at supper and I eat it at 10 o'clock before I go to bed. I'm a chocolate freak. And I don't have to do any extra laps to account for that. I sort of just max out, and I don't know what happens (to my weight). I wish (stuff) would get bigger on me, but it just don't. Timothy Peters: Buying tennis shoes. My closet is pretty full. Scott Lagasse Jr.: It's probably not one that I can talk about here, but I don't know -- I like toys. 9. What is the last movie you went to the theatre to see? Bobby Hamilton: The Family Stone. Scott Lagasse Jr.: I went and saw the Johnny Cash movie, Walk the Line, with my family. That was pretty cool. Bobby Hamilton Jr.: It's been so long, I don't even know. The last one I saw was that Jackass movie. 10. What have you guys learned about yourselves in the last year? Bobby Hamilton Jr.: My deal was all about learning how to handle stress. Bobby Hamilton: My deal is sort of corny, especially with the young guys sitting here, but with this little gal (Haylie), she's a little over a year old. And I've learned how much your life can change when somebody else comes into your life. It's a big change. Scott Lagasse Jr.: I learned how to deal with not running good. I learned that it's not the end of the world, but it isn't cool, either. Timothy Peters: I learned that when you have an opportunity in this big-time auto racing, like for instance with how we travel, how much your life can change. You're living your dream, but you learn how much things change. We're on the road all the time and you're away from your family -- so that's one thing that I've learned. |
