AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Greg Biffle gets a lot of credit for running well on NASCAR's high-banked speedways, but there might not be a track he enjoys more than Phoenix International Raceway. Biffle led the final practice for Saturday's Subway Fresh 500 at PIR, turning in a lap of 129.655 mph. Jimmie Johnson was second at 129.352. Biffle's luck has been bad at PIR -- he only has one career top-10 here -- but he unloaded fast on Thursday and has not looked back. His Ford has been so good that he was angry at losing the pole to Kyle Busch, who beat Biffle head-to-head here last fall. Biffle had led 189 of the 312 laps. At least I got a top-10 start for this weekend, and we'll get a good pit stall, and I think I've got a great car for Saturday night, and that's what I'm most excited about," Biffle said. Neither Biffle or Johnson have won at PIR, although both men have been saddled with runner-up finishes. Johnson, the Nextel Cup points leader, is trying to get back on a track after being shut out of the top 10 in two of the past three races. "I'd be real happy with a strong top-10. A top-five would be great," Johnson said. "If we can go out there and lead some laps and compete well, I'll be real happy." |
