Kyle Busch remains this week near his adopted North Carolina home for a second doubleheader at Lowe's Motor Speedway, hard on the heels of his first Craftsman Truck Series start -- and win -- of the season last weekend. Busch will drive his usual pair of No. 5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolets in Memorial Day weekend's Busch and Nextel Cup races at the speedy, 1.5-mile LMS layout. Busch took a break to answer 10 questions not necessarily connected to his racing career. 1. What's your least favorite household chore? Busch: Taking out the trash has got to be my least favorite chore. Back home in Las Vegas we always had an awful lot of trash. We always had a bunch of stuff -- all the racecar parts and tires and stuff like that -- that we'd always take down to the street. The trash guys were awfully nice to us [because] they'd take anything we'd ever put down there. My dad had a MAC Tools business so we had tons of boxes and all that kind of stuff, and everything else, so I had to make three or four trips down the driveway every Tuesday and Thursday for the trash pickup. I wasn't one of those kids that always liked to make dump runs. But another thing was that I didn't have to do the dog pick'er upper stuff. That was grandma's job. She liked to go out and have some time to enjoy herself and do that -- so it was easy for her. I know I didn't do it. 2. What is your favorite outdoor activity? Busch: It would be going out to Lake Norman and doing water sports, water skiing and wakeboarding and stuff like that. I enjoy having a good time with that. Of course, another outdoor activity would be fishing. Homestead's probably my most favorite place to go fishing, because you can just throw [a line] off into the lake back there off the backstretch, and have a good time there. I don't own my own boat, but I've got well-connected friends that have some good boats. But since I've gotten a house on the lake now, I'm probably going to have to invest in my own boat. The type of boat I'm looking for is not too big. I just want something that's small, that's cool -- just a little sports boat that you can put your stuff on -- your skis and your wakeboard and stuff like that. Probably something like a 25-footer. 3. Which athlete outside of racing do you most admire? Busch: I most admire Rod Smith, the wide receiver for the Denver Broncos. He's been very good for a long time and he's always come up with amazing receiving yards and reception stats over the years. For the age that he's getting up to now -- I think he's 35 years old -- he's pretty much to the top of his game in the NFL and probably looking to get out. The main reason that I say that is that I've been able to talk to him and have some conversations on the phone with him and stuff. We've kind of become acquaintances over the last year or so since I met him. 4. What's one thing your fans don't know about you? Busch: It's probably that I'm just as laid-back and easy-going as anybody else out there, you know? Everybody probably sees me as being uptight and sticking to myself -- which I am a little bit. But when you get me out and away from the racetrack and doing some stuff that I enjoy doing, I'm pretty much my own person and can do my own things. Maybe people get too focused in on what they see at the racetrack and they don't understand there's a lot more to a person than that. You hear a lot of stories about guys that go out and have a good time and what good guys they are away from the racetrack and how they enjoy that time, and I'm just like any one of them. 5. Which show is "must see TV" for you? Busch: Right now it's Grey's Anatomy. That's a show that me and my girlfriend enjoy watching, as well as Desperate Housewives and The OC on Thursdays. | | | Kyle Busch spends some time with his brother and their father. I think it's pretty neat that Patrick Dempsey from Grey's Anatomy has been getting into racing. I haven't had any conversations with him at all, but it's a situation that's good for him. I'm glad to see it and I hope he can have some fun with it. 6. If possible, who would you trade places with for a day, and why? Busch: I'd probably want to trade places with Michael Schumacher for a day -- or maybe even a week, or a weekend -- something like that. I'd just like to see what he has to go through and the situations he has to put up with. I'd like to see the stuff that he does at the racetrack and away from the racetrack -- and how he gets recognized, if he does, in different countries and whatnot. So I think being Michael Schumacher would be pretty cool. I don't know how he'd do if he got into a Kellogg's Nextel Cup car. He'd probably wail her off into the corner way deeper than it should go and maybe waffle it up. But Jeff Gordon and Juan Montoya did that swap a couple of years ago and Juan did a very good job. So I'm sure Schumacher could get the knack for it pretty quickly. 7. Do you have an iPod, and if you do, what's on that bad boy? Busch: I do, and I think I have probably about 1,250-something songs on it. It ranges from a lot of rock, alternative rock and it's got some R&B on it and some pop. I've got everything from God Smack to Train to Eminem to 50 Cent to pretty much anything you can imagine. What I play a lot of times depends on my mood. I'll just put it on random play and it will pretty much go through everything. I can go from rap to hard rock like that and it doesn't bother me. The only thing there's not a lot of on there is country music. 8. What's your No. 1 guilty pleasure? Busch: Probably laziness. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and I'm just not very motivated and it's hard for me to get up and do something. Once I get after it and get going I can't stop -- I'm up until 11 o'clock. Sometimes the schedules we keep will make you think you're entitled to sleep in -- but not all the time. You want to do your household chores and get them over with and clean up the garage or whatnot. But sometimes you just want to sit on the couch and flip the channels. But then my girlfriend will yell at me, and I'll get up and go do it. | | | Kyle Busch's best finish of the season was a third-place run at his hometown of Las Vegas. Credit: Autostock |

9. Which star or celebrity would you most like to hang out with? Busch: I would've said Tom Cruise, because he was my favorite actor -- but he's going a little bit crazy lately. So I'm going to say Joey from Friends -- Matt LeBlanc. He's cool, he's funny and he cracks me up. When he went from Friends and did his own show, Joey, he translated a lot of the same material yet made it different and it was pretty neat. He's a cool guy. 10. What have you learned about yourself in the last year? Busch: That's a good question and I'm still working on that. I've actually gone through and bought a few books and stuff. I'm reading more about what life entails in general and stuff like that -- and I'm trying to figure out what my place is here. But the stuff that I've probably learned about is that everybody that is on this earth is here for a reason. I'm not sure exactly what that may be -- but everybody's got a purpose. |
