BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Greg Biffle was a man craving for the warmth of the sun on a cool, rainy day. | | | Greg Biffle got his sixth top-10 in a row. Credit: Autostock |

With two wins and four top-10s at Michigan International Speedway -- and driving the car to beat during Saturday's two practice sessions -- when the weather turned gloomy, so did his chances of winning Sunday's 3M Performance 400. "I just needed a hot, sunny day," Biffle said. "My car shines on that kind of racetrack where it's slick, and after about 15 laps the tires get slick and off my racecar goes." Still, Biffle ran well enough to post a fourth-place finish, mainly because his No. 16 Ford was still good enough to handle half of Michigan's turns. Biffle was able to move around both Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch in the standings. He's now 10th, 11 points in front of Gordon, who finished eighth, and 12 ahead of Busch, who wound up 14th. "I was overdriving the corner a little bit because this racetrack is so different at both ends, but I was really good in [Turns] 1 and 2," Biffle said. "Usually I'm pretty good down in 3 and 4, but I just needed a hot, sunny day." A record-tying nine cautions also torpedoed Biffle's chances. The longest green-flag run all day was 28 laps -- not long enough for his car to show off its speed. "It was kind of a tough day for us because I like it when my car is set up for hot, sunny weather," he said. "That's my real strong suit and we needed long runs. "You could see how good we were when that happened. It's just unfortunate because we were coming on really great there. We needed the long runs because we were not good on short runs." |
