JOLIET, Ill. -- Kevin Harvick's new motto: Roll with the changes. Harvick says he has refused to worry much about anything, even as his Busch Series crew chief, Shane Wilson, was hit with a six-race suspension last week for Daytona infractions and his own Nextel Cup team is sitting directly on the Chase bubble. | | | Jeff Burton celebrates his fourth career Bud Pole. "I used to let it eat me up and get down and -- I guess -- bitter," Harvick said. "But that stuff is just part of the sport. There is not a whole lot that bothers me anymore, to tell you the truth." Harvick re-signed with Richard Childress Racing in May. Since then, it has been a quiet summer. The man who was good for controversy or two a year has been all but silent in 2006. Instead, Harvick has quietly remained in the top 10 in the points, with only a brief May slump to dampen his season. "Fortunately our cars have been running good enough to where we can still be in points contention," said Harvick. "If we can keep the crazy things from happening, we should be fine." Harvick, who is building a new house, has spent most of the summer on a tractor at his property in North Carolina. His own Busch and Truck teams also demand a majority of his attention. He hasn't had time to worry about anything other than his car once he gets to the track. "During the week, I am just trying to get away from everything," said Harvick. "You have to take it in stride. Over the past five or six years, we have had a lot of adversity. Everything is running pretty smooth. It is what it is. You roll with it." Harvick is ninth in points and primed for a Chase spot, something that has eluded Richard Childress Racing for two years. Teammate Jeff Burton is seventh in points, and Harvick said that Burton's veteran presence has calmed a once-volatile organization. "The chemistry is awesome. That is something that Richard has really been working on," said Harvick. "We will all do whatever it takes to win a championship." |
