This week, the Nextel Cup Series heads to California and the Mayfields are adjusting to life with Jeremy as a Bill Davis Racing employee, looking at Toyota models to replace their former road cars and the latest iteration of NASCAR reality TV. This week: This is reality We hear you're in the middle of filming a new reality show -- so how did that come about and how is it going? Jeremy: Well, we kind of enjoy it and it's been kind of fun. Doing it is pretty neat. After doing "NASCAR Drivers 360" we always said if NASCAR did another one, we'd want to be a part of it and we were very blessed to be a part of this one, so it should be fun -- and it's going to be a little bit different than the last one. We felt like we learned a lot from that one and we know a little bit more about it and feel a little bit more comfortable doing it, so we can show the fans what we're all about. Shana: Everyone can see what we're doing on our somewhat time off, so it's been fun. Jeremy and I have always enjoyed doing these kinds of shows. You get to see that we're real people that do every-day, real life stuff and like I say, you get to see what a driver goes through when we're home and not racing and that kind of thing. We were moving and there were a lot of things going on, so I think it will give the fans a really cool perspective of our lives, not while we're on the road and not traveling every week, and what it's like; so it's been pretty cool. NASCAR Images is producing it and we've been working with a bunch of great guys. Like we said before that makes all the difference in the world. We love doing that kind of stuff and we're looking forward to seeing it, when it comes out late in October. They've been following us around and filming us for two weeks, so I'm not exactly sure how many shows it's going to be or if it's going to be a series. | | | Jeremy Mayfield has five victories in 14 years of Nextel Cup racing. Jeremy: I guess. I haven't really talked to them about the exact dynamics of the show, but it should be good. Shana: I think it's called "Drivers Non-Stop." Jeremy: We really know all about it, but right now we just can't tell you. Just like our deal with Bill Davis to drive the 360 OTC Toyota next season. But we can tell you this -- we're having fun. Shana: We are having fun. Jeremy: We're having a blast and it's been really cool to have the opportunity to do one of these shows again, especially now, when we know what we're doing. Shana: I can't exactly tell you if Jeremy's blown anything up in this one, like he did in the last one, blowing up the Jacuzzi. Jeremy: I'll tell you what; this one is going to be a lot of stunts. Shana: If you think "Jackass" was crazy, just wait 'til you see Non-Stop. Jeremy: Right. You ain't seen nothing until you see this show. It should be something that people enjoy. I know I'm excited about it and I feel like a lot of people out there are going to like it, a lot, when they see it. Now, you just announced your new deal with Bill Davis, but you're still not racing week to week -- so does that mean you can freely do all this risky stuff because breaking an arm or a leg doesn't matter? Shana: No. It does matter if something like that happens. Don't give him any ideas. Jeremy: It matters. So don't worry. Shana: And Bill Davis is going to be involved with this, too. He may not know it yet, but Jeremy's going to take the camera crew up there one day and let them see how Bill Davis Racing operates, with all its employees. Jeremy: And they were also at our announcement of our 360 OTC Toyota program, at Bristol so Bill was obviously involved in that. Shana: They're going to go up there to High Point for the day and tour all the facilities and look at all that cool stuff, so that should be fun for all the fans to see, too. Speaking of reality, what's the latest on the Busch or Truck possibilities that you were talking about, because it looks like doing California is a dead issue? Jeremy: We're not sure about the Busch thing right now. There have been a couple opportunities we're talking about, in both the Busch and the Truck Series that we're trying to put together ourselves. | | | Jeremy looks forward to getting back to the track in 2007. We think it would be a lot of fun and it should be a huge deal if it happens. We've got some things that are being talked about right now, as we speak, so who knows. It might even end up being some stuff in the Nextel Cup Series, in one of Bill Davis' cars. Shana: It will be pretty cool. It sucks not going to the track each week. I really always looked forward to going to California because that's a fun place to go. It's hard not going out there, especially now that it's getting near to Chase time. A year ago we had pretty much sealed the deal to be in it. This part of the season, for the last two years, has been pretty exciting for us. But there are a lot of exciting things going on at home now, for us. It's just a new chapter in our lives and we're pretty caught up in that. Jeremy: It's a different kind of excitement on the home front, and that's a good thing. Shana: Lately, Jeremy and I have had a lot of time to really think about things and we've come to realize the value of a lot of the really important things in life. When you go through turmoil and sever relationships with people, you just kind of look at things a lot differently. I don't know, but it's been a humbling experience. It's weird and I don't exactly know how to explain it, but you kind of separate yourself from that and look at it. Of course, you miss it, but we have a lot of exciting things going on, personally, and that's something to look forward to. It's a new chapter, so it's time to move on and hopefully we'll be back to the racetrack soon, because this is always an exciting time of the season for racers in general. | | | Signing autographs is just one part of a driver's duty at the track. Jeremy: We've had some opportunities come up, but we just don't want to jump into anything. Shana: I understand that, but I'm ready to get back to the racetrack to see "Fifi" and DeLana and all them. Jeremy: That Fifi is looking hot, I'll tell you. Do you have any kind of a timeframe to test a regular 2007 Toyota Camry? Jeremy: I don't know. I know that in the next few weeks we're going to be testing a lot. That's what Tommy [Baldwin] talked about, was testing about every week. I think he wanted to get two or three weeks behind us, and to get a lot more stuff done, then really start testing. So even if we're not at the racetrack during race weekends, we want all the fans to know that we are testing and getting ready for next year. Hopefully that's going to put us a little bit ahead of the schedule and put us in better shape than if we were racing all year. Next year is going to be a great year for us. Shana: And the fans, too, ought to go to 360otc.com, where Jeremy is going to be doing a weekly blog, or forum, where people can register and have access to contests and a forum where we'll be posting stuff from time to time. That's already started and it looks like it will be a lot of fun. It allows Jeremy to keep in touch with the fans and to let them know what we have going on out here at the farm -- so that the fans that are anxious to know what's going on can check the Web site out and stay up to speed on what's happening. Jeremy: We're going to try to do it pretty much like a live chat session, where I'll be posting items in there. I think I'm going to try to pick out a day -- like every Tuesday -- where I'll plan to do that. Now that you're hooked up with another manufacturer, have you had any more chances to look at any Toyotas? Jeremy: I'm telling you, the Toyota truck, the Tundra, is awesome. The TRD version, especially the black ones, already come with the most awesome-looking set of wheels you've ever seen. I can't wait to get mine, which I've already ordered, and it should be here soon. Shana: You didn't order me anything yet, did you? Jeremy: You didn't know what you wanted. You said there were 'so many wonderful vehicles' that you couldn't make up your mind. Shana: I like the Toyota 4Runner but I've actually been looking at the Lexus that is kind of like the Range Rover that I have now. You know which one I'm talking about -- the big Lexus. I love that, so maybe I can talk Jeremy into getting Toyota into hooking me up with one of those. They look really comfy and I have to have something comfy looking. Jeremy: But the Tundra truck is awesome, because they've got the king cab and all my dogs can ride in the back. And they are cool looking, and they're fast. I test drove one the other day and it was super cool. It's bad to the bone. Shana: Our pilot already has a Tundra, actually. Jeremy: They're nice vehicles and really I cannot believe how nice of a vehicle that they do make. Shana: Now, don't go overdoing it. Jeremy: You know I won't. Word Association Pluto Jeremy: Never been there. Shana: It's a planet, damn it. Action Jeremy: Cut. Shana: Jackson. It's a wrap Jeremy: Just one more. Shana: The finale. |
