To commemorate Elliott's 30 years of racing at AMS, speedway officials announced that the facility's East Turn Grandstand will be renamed the Elliott Grandstand in honor of Elliott's and his family's contributions to the sport. Ellliott's career includes six victories, five pole positions and 20 top-10 finishes at AMS. The 1988 Cup champion will be making his 57th start on Sunday in the Bass Pro Shops 500. "Bill has been one of the most popular drivers in the history of NASCAR Nextel Cup racing and has certainly thrilled Georgia fans for many years," said Atlanta Motor Speedway president and general manager Ed Clark. "It is only fitting that we give the Elliott name a permanent home at our facility where he has had so much success." Elliott, who has been voted "Most Popular Driver" by the fans an astounding 16 times, calls Atlanta his home track. |
