Lap 288 -- Elliott Sadler goes to pit road and behind the wall with a reported engine failure.

Lap 286 -- Scott Riggs, who started 20th, has worked his way into the sixth position.

Lap 280 -- Rookies Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr. and Reed Sorenson are running fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Two rookies haven't finished in the top five since 2002.

KAHNE WINS AT TEXAS
Kasey Kahne became the 11th different winner in as many Nextel Cup races held at Texas Motor Speedway, yet he still managed to score a first -- by doing it from the pole.

Lap 251 -- All the cars hit pit road for pit stops:
• Kasey Kahne had the fastest time and wins the race off pit road with no changes
• Denny Hamlin's 13.1-second stop was good enough for second
• Carl Edwards got off third with a 13.7-second stop
• Tony Stewart was fourth
• Matt Kenseth gained four positions to get fifth off pit road
• Jimmie Johnson gets the Lucky Dog

Lap 250 -- CAUTION FLAG: Kyle Petty's engine blows up as smoke bellows from the No. 45 machine.

Lap 233 -- Kasey Kahne has moved from fourth to second in the past five laps.

Lap 224 -- Jeff Gordon has a left-rear flat tire in Turn 3.

Lap 220 -- Positions 11-15 (Reed Sorenson, Jeff Gordon, Elliott Sadler, Jeff Burton and Robby Gordon) are running nose-to-tail battling for position.

Lap 210 -- Ryan Newman is interviewed in the garage and blames his accident on Sterling Marlin.

Lap 207 -- LEAD CHANGE: Matt Kenseth passes Denny Hamlin, but Carl Edwards slips by both of them to take the lead. Kenseth falls to fourth after Hamlin gets back by and Tony Stewart goes by as well.

Lap 160 -- LEAD CHANGE: Matt Kenseth completes his last-to-first run when he moves past Denny Hamlin for the lead.

Lap 150 -- GREEN FLAG: Denny Hamlin leads a pack that goes three-wide at the restart.

Lap 147 -- All of the leaders hit pit road for four tires and fuel:
• Denny Hamlin wins the race off pit road, gaining three positions
• Carl Edwards is second after a 13.7-second stop
• Tony Stewart dropped to fifth after pit stops

Lap 101 -- Teammates Carl Edwards, who started 37th, and Matt Kenseth, who started 40th, are running ninth and 10th, respectively.

Lap 93 -- LEAD CHANGE: Tony Stewart passes his teammate Denny Hamlin to move from 36th to first in less than 100 laps. Stewart has now led in each race this season.

Lap 92 -- LEAD CHANGE: Denny Hamlin passes Kasey Kahne for the lead, and Tony Stewart is on Hamlin's tail.

Lap 90 -- GREEN FLAG: Kasey Kahne gets the race going again.

Lap 89 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. and a few others hit pit road when it opens.

Lap 88 -- Jeff Gordon hits pit road again, although pit road was not open. His crew checks a right-rear spring rubber to make sure it did not fall out. Gordon will restart at the tail end of the longest line.

Lap 87 -- CAUTION FLAG: The red flag has lifted and cars are rolling again after repairs to the fence are complete.

Lap 87 -- RED FLAG: Cars are stopped on pit road while minor repairs are made to the Turn 3 wall.

Lap 86 -- Greg Biffle's girlfriend, Nicole, visits Kurt Busch's pit box and chats heatedly atop the box with Busch's fiancée, Eva.

Lap 84 -- All of the lead-lap cars hit pit road:
• Lots of damage is on Kurt Busch's nose; concern of radiator problems
• Everybody takes four tires
• Kasey Kahne wins the race off pit road
• Gibbs cars of Denny Hamlin, Tony Stewart and J.J. Yeley follow

Lap 82 -- CAUTION FLAG: Greg Biffle gets tagged by Kurt Busch as they enter Turn 3 and smashes into the wall. His No. 16 Ford that had been dominant all day rests at the bottom of the turn.

Lap 78 -- Carl Edwards, one of the first cars who pitted during the yellow, is running seventh. He has improved 30 positions after starting 37th.

Lap 74 -- Kasey Kahne puts Jeff Gordon a lap down, while the Gibbs cars fight with Martin Truex Jr. for second through fifth.

Lap 72 -- LEAD CHANGE: Kasey Kahne goes to the high line and takes the lead back from J.J. Yeley.

Lap 70 -- LEAD CHANGE: J.J. Yeley slides under Kasey Kahne to take the lead at the line.

Lap 69 -- GREEN FLAG: Kasey Kahne leads the field to the flag. Seventeen cars are at least one lap down. Here's the top five:

Lap 66 -- Greg Biffle and most of the lead-lap cars hit pit road for four tires. Kasey Kahne's team director Kenny Francis watches Biffle go into the pits and directs his driver to stay out to take the lead.

Lap 62 -- Greg Biffle reassumes the lead over Kasey Kahne.

Lap 60 -- A peg on the bottom of Kurt Busch's car breaks while the jack man is trying to lift the right side of the car. The crew cannot get the jack from underneath the car. His stop is nearly a minute.

Lap 57 -- Green-flag pit stops for Greg Biffle, Mark Martin and most of the leaders. Matt Kenseth bumps into Scott Riggs entering pit road. Biffle gets blocked in his pit and is forced to back up before exiting.

Lap 55 -- Jimmie Johnson goes a lap down to Greg Biffle. Jamie McMurray to pit road.

Lap 50 -- Greg Biffle's lead is more than 7 seconds. The top-five drivers are:
1. Greg Biffle
2. Kasey Kahne
3. Mark Martin
4. Jeff Green
5. J.J. Yeley

Lap 35 -- Dale Jarrett, one of the fastest in practice, has already gone a lap down. He's complaining of a tight racecar.

Lap 26 -- Brian Vickers has smoke coming out of his car and has slowed down onto the apron. He coasts to the garage, as the engine is not running.

Lap 22 -- Greg Biffle has built a 4.159-second lead over Mark Martin and says his car is perfect.

Lap 14 -- LEAD CHANGE: Greg Biffle smoothly goes by Mark Martin to take the lead. Tony Stewart has moved from 36th to 23rd.

Lap 5 -- Polesitter Kasey Kahne has fallen back to seventh position. He hasn't said anything over the radio.

Lap 1 -- LEAD CHANGE: Mark Martin edges Kasey Kahne to the line to lead the first lap.

2:12 p.m. -- GREEN FLAG: Kasey Kahne leads the field into Turn 1.

2:07 p.m. -- In 77-degree weather, the cars roll onto the track for warmup laps.

2:02 p.m. -- President George W. Bush, via videotape from the White House: "I know you are all anxious to get today's Nextel Cup race started, so I am not going to take up a lot of your time. ... Now it's my honor to get this race going. Gentlemen, start your engines."

1:59 p.m. -- Three drivers are sent to the back: Matt Kenseth, Derrike Cope and Scott Wimmer (Wimmer was 43rd already).

1:55 p.m. -- Little Big Town sings the national anthem as four F-14 Eagle jets fly over.

1:54 p.m. -- Invocation.

1:45 p.m. -- Randy Travis performs in the infield.

1:40 p.m. -- Jeff Hammond makes his first appearance in a cowboy hat.

1:34 p.m. -- After Tony Stewart challenges Darryl Waltrip, Chris Myers and Larry McReynolds to a fence-climbing contest, he then calls Waltrip a "big wuss."

1:30 p.m. -- FOX's coverage of the Samsung/RadioShack 500 from Texas is on the air.

12:37 p.m. -- It's clear skies over Texas, 63 degrees and sunny. One hour until the green flag.
