BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Reality Racing, Inc. president Lee F. Schaefer announced that NASCAR driving legend Donnie Allison has joined his brother Bobby as a commentator on the new Reality Racing -- The Rookie Challenge network television series. Reality Racing -- The Rookie Challenge combines two of the most prevalent on-air entertainment concepts -- stock car racing and reality television - to create a unique, action-packed, 13-week series scheduled to air on a major network later this year. The Series will pit contestants with absolutely no racing backgrounds and from all walks of life against each other in a stock car racing competition format. Helping to judge the competitors will be a panel of select, former stock car racing stars headed by the Allisons. "Reality Racing is honored to reunite two of the original members of the famed 'Alabama Gang' in our exciting, new program combining reality television and stock car racing", said Schaefer. "Donnie and Bobby bring a level of experience, insight and creditability that will benefit our contestants as they deal with the various racing challenges they will face. The commentary by the Allisons should also prove to be quite entertaining for the viewers", Schaefer added. The unique series is expected to receive national attention and a weekly following of racing and general sports enthusiasts alike. The Reality Racing - Rookie Challenge champion will come from a select group of contenders from everyday life who have never been in a race car but who will compete for a cash award, a gold championship ring and an opportunity to drive in a sanctioned race. The youngest of the two racing Allisons, Donnie was a 10-time winner on NASCAR's prestigious Winston Cup circuit during a driving career that spanned three decades . The most notable of Donnie's career Winston Cup victories were earned in races at Daytona, Talladega, Charlotte, Atlanta, Rockingham and Bristol. Brother Bobby was the 1983 NASCAR champion who is tied with Darrell Waltrip for the third most career victories (84) in what is the country's number one motor sports series today. Bobby also won the Daytona 500 three times, the last coming in 1988 when he beat his late son Davey to the checkers in one of NASCAR's most memorable events. In addition to his NASCAR win total, Donnie Allison received many other honors during his illustrious career including the 1967 NASCAR Grand National Rookie of the Year prize and the 1970 Indianapolis 500 Rookie of the Year award that goes to the best finishing rookie driver in the world's greatest race -- the Indianapolis 500. Donnie is amongst only a handful of drivers who have found success in both Indy cars and stock cars. The highly impressive list of other NASCAR racing legends who have already signed on to serve as judges for the Reality Racing -- The Rookie Challenge will be announced shortly. |
