Think about it... Tony Stewart's Home Depot car blasting across your living room wall with Jeff Gordon in hot pursuit. No, you aren't watching the Daytona 500 on wide screen TV. You're seeing the latest craze in sports collectibles: the "Fathead." The big, bold vinyl wall graphics of Fatheads are the perfect complement to any NASCAR fan's home or office.
To get a better understanding of exactly what a Fathead is, think about the imagery found on the popular cardboard stand-ups that have been around racing for 30 or 40 years. But in this case, those images are applied to a vinyl backing that sticks directly to your wall.
The vivid 3-D imagery brings you about as close to the action as you can get without looking over Tony Eury's shoulder on race day.
Fathead entered the NASCAR market just last year with wall graphics of the sport's top cars, then quickly expanded its portfolio to include images of the drivers themselves, as well as oversized replicas of stylized car numbers.
Car images usually measure a whopping 96" x 32", while the tale of the tape for driver graphics is about 70" x 30". With dimensions like that, these things totally dominate a wall.
Well over a dozen different drivers make up the Fathead line-up, including: Dale Earnhardt Jr., Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Jimmie Johnson, Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Bobby Labonte, Richard and Kyle Petty, Ryan Newman, and Jamie McMurray.
Fathead wall graphics are printed on state-of-the-art oversize presses and use premium grade inks on high quality vinyl to achieve optimum detail and clarity. Each piece is precision cut via a select, kiss-cut process for one-of-a-kind, real-life dimension. It's a litho process, not digital, which enhances the detail tremendously. You can see all of the logos for the major and associate sponsors very clearly. There are only a few printers around the country who can actually handle printing on vinyl this large with this much detail.
Moving the Fathead from one location to another is relatively simple. Its patented, low-tack backing allows you to peel, place, and move it from wall to wall without losing adhesion or damaging walls. Fatheads' high quality construction resists tears, rips or even fading.
The Fathead came to NASCAR after enjoying meteoric success in other sports. The product line made its debut in the NFL in September, 2005 with images of helmets from all 32 teams, as well as individual players. Fatheads then moved into the NBA before hitting the track with NASCAR's best. The company has now branched out to include the NHL, MLB, collegiate sports and the entertainment industry.
