NASCAR memorabilia collectors often have questions about the items they've accumulated. Here are our responses to some of your most recent inquiries:
Q: I have a 1973 NABISCO Sugar Daddy Racing Card Set and the poster that was offered to display them on. The cards were cut and glued to the poster as suggested. Several years ago I saw an article in a collectibles magazine giving the value at $2100 with no mention of the poster. My poster has been professionally framed on acid free paper. Can you update me on the value? -- Wayne Croy

A: Is this a cool set of cards or what? Only one stock car is included in this 25-card set, the No. 21 Wood Brothers Mercury wheeled by A.J. Foyt. This set brought really big money back in the trading card boom of the early 1990s. It is still one of the better sets in terms of monetary worth. I'd place the value of your set, in the frame, at $700-800.
Q: I have a poster that commemorates the 1988 Ford Thunderbirds of NASCAR. It says "88 Birds of NASCAR" and features the seven drivers that raced Thunderbirds that year: Bill Elliott, Davey Allison, Alan Kulwicki, Brett Bodine, Mark Martin, Kyle Petty, Benny Parsons. Each driver hand-signed the poster. Could you give me a value? -- Jack Alford
A: The signatures of Allison, Kulwicki, and Parsons make up most of the value of this unique collectible. I'd apprise this poster at $200-250.
Q: I have an Action 1:24 scale Tony Stewart 2002 Winston Cup Champion car. Though he won the Cup in a Pontiac, Action made his championship commemorative car as a Chevy. I have attempted to find this car on ebay to get an idea of what it is worth but I can't seem to find any out there. The car itself is mint and I have the box and tissue paper with it. -- Gregory
A: Personally, I've only seen this car as a Pontiac, but it is quite probable that some Monte Carlos made it into production too. The value would be the same: $50-75 for the Action Racing Collectables version.
Q: I was working in Victory Lane at Daytona in 1998 and was given the Winston Cup hat that Dale Earnhardt wore for the photos. Caron Myers, Chocolate Myers' wife, gave it to me I got Dale to sign it I also have a Goodwrench hat signed by Dale and Richard Childress, and one signed by Dale's entire pit crew. I don't want to sell them just wanted to know what there worth. -- Dave in Daytona
A: The hat signed by Earnhardt alone is likely worth $100-150. Add another $25 to the one signed by him and Childress. The hat signed by the crew is worth $35-60.
Q: I have a Jeff Gordon 1:24 Winners Circle Pepsi Busch Series car that has one side of it that has the graphics shifted on it too much to one side. It has a QA sticker on it pointing out the problem, but it still made it through and is factory sealed. Is this worth more? -- John Watts
A: Mistakes are not uncommon in die-cast and rarely add to the value. In fact, they usually detract from it. This car is kind of unique though, because of the sticker. That makes it a bit of an exception. You still have to keep in mind that it is just a Winner's Circle car. I'd place the value of this oddity at a bit more than a normal car, $25-35.
Q: I have a brand new, in mint condition, Simpson Goodwrench button up crew shirt with all embroidered logos, sponsors etc.. It has never been worn from what I can tell. It is from the year 2000. Can you tell me what it is worth? -- Ted
A: The key is authenticating this garment as an actual RCR crew uniform. If that can be confirmed, the value would likely run somewhere in the $250-500 range.
Q: I have three 1995 Club Maxx Bill Elliott BatMetal Cards. I am having a hard time finding any info or value on these cards. I you have any information that would be a great help. -- John
A: These cars were an extension of the 10-card MAXX Bill Elliott Bat Chase set that commemorated the Thunderbat promotion tied to the movie, Batman Forever. I've seen this set advertised recently for $150. Realistically, I'd place the vlue more in the $75-125 range,
Q: I have a 1997 Winner's Circle ChromaPremier Jeff Gordon 1:24 scale diecast. Its box is damaged a little bit, but was wondering how much a car like this would be worth? -- Phillip
A: For a Winner's Circle car, this piece carries a pretty good appraisal. It should be worth around $50, give or take a few dollars.
Q: I have a 1:24 scale car made by Action of Matt Kenseth's Dewalt Busch Car. It has the Rookie Stripes on it. The weird thing is that it is a Chevrolet and not a Ford. Can you tell me how rare this car is and what it may be worth? -- Brandon Coleman
A: Kenseth was actually racing a Chevrolet in the Busch series before joining Roush Racing, and still drove the Chevy in the Busch ranks for a short time after beginning his association with Roush. It is actually a fairly valuable die-cast, worth $100-125 in terms of collectibility.
Q: I have a 50th anniversary 24k gold plated commemorative series with the number 6 on the car. I do believe Jeff Gordon drove this car. It has the name of Power Team on the hood and is still in its original package. I would like to know if Jeff Gordon did drive this car number then and if it is worth anything. -- Gary
A: The No. 6 Power Team car was driven in the Busch Series by Joe Bessey. The top value for this Racing Champions car would be around $25 if the hood doesn't open; $30 if it does.
