Jeff Gordon is good, but don't turn your back and lose focus of Robby Gordon.

By the Numbers: The Glen

When it comes to road-course racing no one's better, relatively speaking, than Jeff Gordon. And while his numbers at Sonoma are better across the board, he can't be discounted at Watkins Glen.

Gordon has made 14 starts at The Glen, and leads all drivers with four victories. However, only six of his 15 top-fives and seven of his 18 top-10s on the road have come at the New York-based track.

And Jeff isn't the only Gordon who likes to sprinkle in a few right turns during the course (pardon the pun) of a day's work. Watkins Glen is by far Robby Gordon's most productive track and his career average finish of 9.2 is better than Jeff Gordon's 12.6.

Two of Robby Gordon's three Cup wins have come on road courses -- one each at Sonoma and Watkins Glen. But his career numbers reflect much more success at The Glen. All six of his top-10s there happen to be top-fives and in his eight career starts Gordon has finished worse than 16th just once (electrical).

One name conspicuously absent from the entry list is that of Mark Martin, who leads all drivers in top-fives (12) and top-10s (16) at Watkins Glen. From 1993 to 1995 no one was better at The Glen than was Martin, who won each of those three races from the pole. Regan Smith will drive the 01 car this week.

Speaking of missing the Centurion Boats, how is it that no one asked Scott Pruett to drive this year at Watkins Glen?

Interesting Fact

5.8Average finish for Scott Pruett at Watkins Glen, best of any "road ringer." In five career starts Pruett has never finished worse than 11th at The Glen, with two top-fives and four top-10s.

Fun Fact

1/3Of the three road courses Ricky Rudd has raced -- Sonoma, Watkins Glen and Riverside -- he has been about as consistent as one can. He has divided his six wins among the three tracks evenly, and exactly one-third of his 30 top-10s have come at Watkins Glen.

All the Facts

1Driver to have competed in each of the 21 races since the Cup Series returned to Watkins Glen in 1986: Michael Waltrip. Terry Labonte will drive in Waltrip's stead this year.
1Race won at Watkins Glen from a starting position higher than 14th: Steve Park (18) in 2000.
2New York natives who have won at Watkins Glen: Geoffrey Bodine (1996); Steve Park (2000).
2Career wins -- both in the No. 1 Chevy of DEI -- for Steve Park, the first of which came at Watkins Glen in 2000.
2Runner-up finishes for road-course ringer Ron Fellows in nine starts at Watkins Glen. He hasn't finished better than 25th in the seven other races.
2Drivers who have won three consecutive races at Watkins Glen: Mark Martin (1993-95); Jeff Gordon (1997-99).
3Place of finish last year at Watkins Glen for Jamie McMurray, the second-best road-course finish of his career. McMurray started on the pole earlier this year at Sonoma and let a total of 30 laps. After losing the lead late in the race, McMurray eventually ran out of gas and finished 37th.
6.8Average place of finish for Tony Stewart in eight starts at Watkins Glen, best of any active driver. Stewart has three wins, four top-fives and six top-10s.
7Place of finish for Elliott Sadler in the 2006 race at Watkins Glen, which marked his last appearance in the No. 38 Ford and his only top-10 in eight career starts there.
8Times the winner at Watkins Glen has started from the pole, the most of any of any starting position.
8.0Average place of finish for defending race winner Kevin Harvick in six Watkins Glen starts. Harvick has never finished worse than 15th.

15.3Average difference in finishing position (25.0) from starting position (9.7) for Kurt Busch at Watkins Glen. In six career starts at The Glen, Busch has started outside the top 10 just once but has only one top-10 finish. The 2006 pole-sitter led a race-high 38 laps but encountered misfortune by way of a pit-road penalty and multi-car wreck.
16Times the lap leader has won at Watkins Glen, not taking into account Kyle Petty who in 1992 led 19 laps, the same total as third-place finisher Ernie Irvan.
18Career wins for Geoffrey Bodine, the last of which came at Watkins Glen in 1996.
35.2Average place of finish for Greg Biffle in four starts at Watkins Glen, where he has never finished better than 30th.
