It was another dominant night for Roush Fenway Racing at the California Speedway. For the 12th time at the track, Jack Roush made his way to Victory Lane. And for the fourth time in the Busch Series, it was due to Matt Kenseth as he took the checkered-flag at the Stater Bros. 300.
Kenseth, along with Jeff Burton had the dominant cars of the day, leading 94 of the 150 laps, but Kenseth took the lead from Burton on Lap 128 and never looked back.
Casey Mears made the race interesting in the closing laps. In the final 15 laps, Mears had the fastest car on the track and started gaining on Kenseth. Mears ran out of time though, and had to settle for a second-place finish.
Rounding out the top five were Kyle Busch who finished third, and then a couple of Roush Fenway Fords as Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle finished fourth and fifth respectively.
It was quite a day for Edwards. He started the race 40th after crashing in qualifying earlier in the day, but showed steady improvement all night and drove his car to a fourth-place finish.
Kevin Harvick gambled on pit strategy on Lap 89 and it almost paid off resulting in a sixth place finish.
Harvick stayed out when all the leaders came in and took the lead on the restart. He was able to hold off Kenseth, Burton and Busch until Lap 105 when his car got loose and he lost three positions. He continued to fall until the seventh caution of the night came out on a Mike Wallace spin.
That allowed Harvick to get back in sequence with the leaders. Harvick was able to make his way up from ninth and finish sixth.
Overall there were eight cautions on the night, which tied a track record for most cautions equaling races in 1999 and 2005.
