Juan Montoya posted a 26th-place finish at California and is 20th in the point standings, 144 points behind leader Mark Martin.
This week Montoya treks west to Sin City for his first visit to the 1.5-mile, newly reconfigured Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Montoya can be heard on Sirius Speedway (3-7 p.m. ET Mondays) with Dave Moody on Sirius channel 128, and NASCAR.COM will track Montoya's first full Cup season:
| Race | Track | Start | Finish | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Daytona | 36 | 19 | Running |
| 2 | California | 9 | 26 | Running |
| 3 | Las Vegas | 4 | 22 | Running |
| Avg. | 16.3 | 22.3 |
"It's a shame. The car was really fast [Sunday]," Montoya said after finishing 22nd at Las Vegas. "When we went a lap down we were checking the 48 [Jimmie Johnson] and the M&M's car [David Gilliland] just got in the way. I had damage on my fender and from there a grille broke and we just went backwards from there and the car became undriveable.
"The car was good from the beginning. When you damage the fenders at a track like this you're done. We've just got to keep working on the cars and making them faster."
