EA's 'NASCAR 08' covers Stewart for third time

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR and Electronic Arts Inc. announced Thursday that Tony Stewart, driver of the No. 20 Chevrolet, will appear on the cover of NASCAR 08, scheduled for release this summer under the EA SPORTS brand.

Developed by EA Tiburon, NASCAR 08 will be the first of the NASCAR franchise to be made available on the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360 video game system from Microsoft.

Reverse the Curse

Everyone is familiar with the perceived "Madden Curse," the almost certain misfortune that is to come the way of the John Madden cover boy in the NFL. But for ever action there is an equal and opposite reaction, according to Newton's third law. NASCAR spokesman Scott Warfield unearthed what many may not know: the successes enjoyed by NASCAR drivers the year after they have appeared on the cover of EA Sports' games.

"Being on the cover of NASCAR 08 is an honor for me and my team," Stewart said. "I am really impressed with the next generation game features and graphics, and the realism and authenticity are amazing."

Stewart, who has won two Cup Series championships in the past five years, has 29 victories in NASCAR's top series since 1999 and has never finished lower than 11th in the point standings.

During the 2005 season, Stewart won five races and led all drivers in top-fives and top-10 finishes. Throughout his career, Stewart has finished in the top 10 in 59 percent of the races in which he has competed.
