For the third time in less than three weeks Michael Waltrip Racing has made a crew chief move, as Thursday the three-car team announced Matt Borland was gone as Dale Jarrett's chief mechanic.

MWR named Jason Burdett as his replacement. Burdett worked with Jarrett as his car chief at Robert Yates Racing and also worked as Jarrett's crew chief last season during a suspension to former RYR crew chief Slugger Labbe.

Borland came to Waltrip Racing at the beginning of the season and worked with Jarrett for the first nine races.

The No. 44 team faces a tough test at Richmond International Raceway this weekend as it must qualify based on Jarrett's speed. In nine races Jarrett has only qualified on his speed twice. In six races he used his entire season allotment of past champion provisional starting positions. At Texas Motor Speedway, when qualifying was rained out, Jarrett used his champion's status from 1999 to make the field, per the rulebook.

He is currently 37th in the driver standings.

Parting ways with Borland is the latest chapter in a tumultuous year for Waltrip, who opened the season with three completely new teams fielding cars under new Nextel Cup manufacturer, Toyota.

During Speedweeks the team was hit with a staggering set of penalties, including the indefinite suspension of crew chief David Hyder due to infractions discovered in pre-qualifying inspection.

Last month Waltrip was charged with reckless driving and failing to report an accident after hitting a telephone pole and rolling his car about a mile from his home.

On April 18 MWR car chief Buddy Sisco was named Waltrip's crew chief, replacing interim chief mechanic Scott Eggleston. Waltrip is on a streak of eight consecutive races in which he has failed to qualify following the season-opening Daytona 500.

Last Friday Waltrip announced at Talladega Superspeedway that Hyder, who had been reassigned to MWR's test team, was no longer with the organization.

Rookie David Reutimann, who has worked with crew chief Frank Kerr all season, has been the most successful of MWR's teams, qualifying for six of nine races though sitting 43rd in the driver standings.
