Juan Montoya's introduction to the concrete oval at Dover last week turned out a lot like his intro to Bristol: Nothing like he had planned.
After starting 16th, Montoya struggled to a 31st-place finish at five laps down.
On Wednesday, Montoya moved from concrete to the dirt track of Eldora when he competed in the Prelude to the Dream charity event and finished 15th. It was his first dirt-track race.
"I picked up a lot of respect for the guys that run on dirt," he said. "It's very hard to appreciate how tough it is. It takes a lot, a lot, a lot."
And it will take a lot for Montoya to transition back to the super-sized track at Pocono, a 2.5-mile triangular-shaped speedway. It's his first trip to the triangle and he's trying to rebound from a five-race stint where he's dropped from 13th to 22nd in the standings.
