RICHMOND, Va. -- May is a big month for the Official NASCAR Members Club, and it begins this weekend at Richmond International Raceway.
May marks the annual beginning to summer, and it is also the month in which the ONMC holds its National Convention, slated May 16-18 in Charlotte, N.C. This week in Richmond is the kickoff to banquet season for NASCAR's only licensed fan organization.

The Richmond area is a hotbed for ONMC Local Chapters and Local Headquarters. McFadden's in Washington, D.C. is a Local Headquarters just a few blocks from the White House, and Tomahawk's Steakhouse and Saloon in St. Albans, W.Va., pulls in as many as 600 people for the ONMC Direct shows the Club produces.
National advisor Dale Klonin considers RIR his home track, even though he's based in Maryland, and fellow national advisor Paul Mullins is based in Charleston, W.Va.
Richmond is one of the more active race venues for the Club because of its popularity and great racing. For the past two years, at the fall race in Richmond, ONMC members have played a big role in helping the Chase drivers celebrate their making the playoffs. Hundreds of ONMC members are on the track and in the middle of the celebration, hobnobbing with drivers and teams and bringing the noise.
This year, the ONMC will once again celebrate with the 12 Chase drivers about to embark on a 10-race battle to claim the title.
Those Chase drivers will be competing for the Nextel Cup -- which is on the guest list for the National Convention awards banquet on May 17 in the Charlotte Convention Center.
