Kvapil leads final NCTS preseason test session

Travis Kvapil wrapped up a successful Craftsman Truck Series test at Jackson Hewitt Preseason Thunder by leading the final session with a speed of 184.778 mph.

Kvapil led every truck testing session at Daytona.

Sunday's two sessions were combined into one when rain delayed the start of the morning session until 12:02 p.m. ET. Officials decided to combine both the morning and afternoon into one long session.

Two constants at this weekend's testing -- Kvapil up front and trucks spinning. Sunday saw more of the same.

Brendan Gaughan in the No. 77 Chevrolet blew an engine 30 minutes into the session, bringing out the caution. About an hour later, Blake Bjorklund spun his No. 8 Chevy in Turn 4, was able to stay away from the wall and suffered no damage.

Along with Kvapil, Roush Racing teammate Peter Shepherd eclipsed the 184 mph mark with a speed of 184.102, second on the chart.

Kraig Kinser posted the top speed for Chevrolet at 182.945, good enough for third. Erik Darnell and David Starr rounded out the top five in Fords.

Last year's Truck Series runner-up Johnny Benson was fastest for Toyota at 182.578, sixth-quickest on the day. The leading Dodge was Ken Schrader who finished the day in 11th.

Sunday concluded the first round of Truck Series testing. The second session begins Jan. 19.
