Lap 499 -- WHITE FLAG: Jimmie Johnson continues to keep Jeff Gordon behind him.

Lap 497 -- Jeff Gordon pulls to the inside of Jimmie Johnson, bumps him and falls back in line.

Lap 490 -- Jeff Gordon pulls right to the bumper of Jimmie Johnson.

Lap 482 -- GREEN FLAG: Jimmie Johnson leads the field to the flag.

Lap 476 -- None of the leaders pit. Sterling Marlin gets the free pass.

Lap 474 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 13: J.J. Yeley spins in Turn 1 and backs into the wall. He reports that his brakes locked up and he lost it heading into the corner.

Lap 472 -- Martin Truex Jr. is slow and heads to the pits. Meanwhile, David Gilliland pulls behind the wall after slowing drastically.

Lap 465 -- Hendrick Motorsports cars are running first (Jimmie Johnson), second (Jeff Gordon) and fifth (Kyle Busch).

Lap 458 -- Jeff Gordon has caught leader Jimmie Johnson and is looking on the inside and outside. It was Gordon's team that gave Johnson's team notes on a good setup Friday during practice.

Lap 448 -- Jeff Gordon finally gets around Denny Hamlin and sets his sights on leader Jimmie Johnson.

Lap 447 -- Jeff Gordon is all over the back of Denny Hamlin for second position.

Lap 439 -- GREEN FLAG: Jimmie Johnson gets the race going again as the top 11 cars stayed out during this caution.

Lap 429 -- Half of the lead-lap cars hit pit road:
• Kyle Busch is one of the only cars on pit road for tires and fuel
• Kurt Busch joins him, as does Clint Bowyer.

Lap 428 -- Dale Jarrett's crew puts a new tire on and Jarrett is back on the track.

Lap 427 -- Kevin Harvick gets back into his car after the smoke clears, re-fires his car and drives off. He heads to the garage. The foam in the right-side door caught fire.

Lap 426 -- David Reutimann is on pit road, although it is closed, with the hood up.

Lap 425 -- Kevin Harvick pulls his car onto the bottom of the track as smoke comes from the hood. Harvick gets out OK, but his day is finished.

Lap 422 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 12: Dale Jarrett spins in Turn 2 and as his car turns around he loses a right-rear wheel. He was running 22nd at the time as the highest-running Toyota.

Lap 421 -- The top nine cars are Chevrolets. Jamie McMurray runs 10th in a Ford.

Lap 410 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. passes J.J. Yeley for fifth, although Earnhardt still trails leader Jimmie Johnson by 5.923 seconds.

Lap 388 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jimmie Johnson moves below Kyle Busch to take the lead.

Lap 382 -- GREEN FLAG: Kyle Busch gets the field up to speed.

• Tony Stewart is out in 9.3 seconds
• Dale Earnhardt Jr. wins the race off pit road

Lap 375 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 11: Tony Raines spins in Turn 4 after Juan Montoya hit his rear fender. Raines has heavy damage to the right side of the car.

Lap 363 -- GREEN FLAG: Dale Earnhardt Jr. leads the field back to green. Jimmie Johnson, the first car that pitted, restarts 15th.

Lap 357 -- YELLOW FLAG: The red flag has been lifted and cars are rolling onto the track. The red flag officially lasted 30 minutes, 40 seconds.

Lap 357 -- Cars are restarted at 5:21 p.m.

Lap 357 -- After nearly 20 minutes under the red flag, drivers are called back to their cars. The rain has cleared and the track is nearly dry.

Lap 357 -- RED FLAG: Cars are stopped on pit road for a red flag because of the rain.

• Kurt Busch is in for four tires and fuel

Lap 335 -- CAUTION FLAG NO. 9: David Stremme spins in Turn 4. Stremme got loose in the corner while running in the second groove and went around.

Lap 325 -- Leader Dale Earnhardt Jr. has checked out and established a 2.780-second lead as lapped traffic looms ahead.

Lap 312 -- GREEN FLAG: Dale Earnhardt Jr. leads the field to the line.

• Kurt Busch is concerned about brakes, and he makes several adjustments
• Tony Stewart gets an air-pressure adjustment and loses four spots
• Dale Earnhardt Jr. gets out quick and is concerned with weather
• Scott Riggs gets the free pass

Lap 306 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 8: Caution comes out for Robby Gordon's car. He blew a right-front tire and scraped the wall before slowing to nearly a stop on the track.

Lap 304 -- LEAD CHANGE: Tony Stewart moves below Dale Earnhardt Jr. to take the lead. Meanwhile, Robby Gordon slows with a right-front tire problem.

Lap 300 -- Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin have rebounded from previous problems and now run seventh and ninth, respectively.

Lap 288 -- Kevin Harvick slows and heads to pit road. He tells his crew the car has no fuel pressure. He goes directly behind the wall. Harvick was running in the top five. Reports say his problem was the fuel-pump line, much like Tony Stewart's issue at Bristol.

Lap 287 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s lead ahead of Tony Stewart is at 2.352 seconds.

Lap 259 -- Denny Hamlin's car is starting to overheat, running a temperature of more than 250 degrees. He is running 14th.

Lap 250 -- GREEN FLAG: Dale Earnhardt Jr. gets the race going again.

Lap 246 -- Jeff Green is on pit road with the hood up. Matt Kenseth gets the free pass.

Lap 245 -- Seven lead-lap cars hit pit road, including Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin. Gordon's crew said the tires and brakes look OK.

Lap 244 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 7: Kasey Kahne spins in Turn 3 after Greg Biffle made contact with him.

Lap 237 -- Jeff Gordon is now running 11th.

Lap 234 -- LEAD CHANGE: Dale Earnhardt Jr. goes below Jeff Gordon to take the lead, while Gordon slows significantly with a potential problem. Gordon falls to seventh position in one lap.

Lap 229 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. drives underneath Tony Stewart to take second position.

Lap 225 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jeff Gordon moves by Tony Stewart to take the point.

Lap 223 -- GREEN FLAG: Tony Stewart leads the field to the line. After the 28.9-second pit stop, Denny Hamlin restarts 10th.

Lap 217 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 6: Jeremy Mayfield slides into the wall and smashes the right side of his car coming out of Turn 4. Brake heat melted the bead on his right-front tire.

Lap 194 -- Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart move underneath Dale Earnhardt Jr. to take second and third, respectively.

Lap 190 -- In his first visit to Martinsville, Juan Montoya is running 20th and on the lead lap.

Lap 175 -- The top seven cars -- and eight of the top 10 -- are Chevrolets.

Lap 158 -- GREEN FLAG: Denny Hamlin gets things going again. Jeff Gordon gets into the back of Dale Earnhardt Jr. on the restart, likely because Earnhardt spun his tires.

Lap 152 -- Leaders are on pit road:
• Kurt Busch makes adjustments and gets four tires
• Denny Hamlin needs forward bite off the turns

Lap 151 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 5: Carl Edwards spins A.J. Allmendinger in Turn 3 and sends him up the track to bring out the caution. Dave Blaney's brakes lock in Turn 1, and he pushes into the wall. His right-front is blown.

Lap 141 -- Denny Hamlin makes contact with Johnny Sauter as he tries to lap him, forcing Hamlin to hop the inside curb. Slight damage is on Sauter's left-rear.

Lap 139 -- LEAD CHANGE: After going side-by-side around the track with Jeff Gordon, Denny Hamlin takes the lead and finally gets around Sterling Marlin to put him a lap down.

Lap 137 -- Denny Hamlin has caught Jeff Gordon as they work through lapped traffic.

Lap 130 -- Only two Dodges are running inside the top 20: Kurt Busch (seventh) and Elliott Sadler (19th).

Lap 107 -- Sterling Marlin spins in Turn 4 with some help from Scott Riggs. He backs up and continues without losing a lap. No caution.

Lap 105 -- GREEN FLAG: Jeff Gordon gets the field up to speed.

Lap 91 -- Leaders head to pit road:
• Carl Edwards takes some air pressure out and makes a chassis adjustment
• Jeff Gordon is too loose and gets a wedge adjustment
• Denny Hamlin is still tight and is out in 13.6 seconds
• Dave Blaney gets the free pass

Lap 90 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 3: Caution is out for Robby Gordon. He could not get to pit road. He did not make contact with the wall, although his right-front tire is flat.

Lap 88 -- Robby Gordon has a similar problem to Casey Mears and has trouble getting to the inside of the track to hit pit road.

Lap 86 -- Casey Mears smacks the wall once again and has a lot of damage to his right-front fender, including the splitter. His right-front tire is flat. No caution.

Lap 75 -- After starting fourth, Ken Schrader has fallen back to 20th in the hometown Wood Brother/JTG Racing Ford.

Lap 55 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jeff Gordon patiently gets around Denny Hamlin after trailing him for five laps.

Lap 50 -- LEAD CHANGE: Denny Hamlin drag races Elliott Sadler down the straightaway and goes by for the lead. Jeff Gordon moves by for second.

Lap 47 -- GREEN FLAG: Elliott Sadler gets the field up to speed.

Lap 42 -- Elliott Sadler did not pit and inherits the lead when Mike Bliss makes his pit stop.

• Kevin Harvick gets out in 14.2 seconds
• Denny Hamlin is battling a tight car and makes adjustments

Lap 37 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 2: Bobby Labonte crashes hard into the wall in Turn 1. His entire left side is destroyed. Labonte touched Greg Biffle heading into the corner, but it was Labonte who went spinning into the fence. His brake pedal went to the floor.

Lap 25 -- Jeff Gordon goes on the outside of Jamie McMurray to take second position.

Lap 22 -- Leader Denny Hamlin has caught the back of the field and puts A.J. Allmendinger a lap down.

Lap 8 -- GREEN FLAG: Denny Hamlin gets the race going again.

Lap 1 -- Denny Hamlin goes low and takes the point to lead the first lap.

2:17 p.m. -- GREEN FLAG: Denny Hamlin and Jamie McMurray lead the field into Turn 1 at Martinsville.

2:12 p.m. -- Cars are on the track making their pace laps.

2:07 p.m. -- Grand marshal Richard Petty gives the command: "Gentlemen, start your engines."

2:01 p.m. -- B.J. Norris, director of music at Martinsville Middle School, plays the national anthem on the saxophone.

2 p.m. -- Tim Byrd of Raceway Ministries delivers the invocation.

1:30 p.m. -- FOX's pre-race coverage of the Goody's Cool Orange 500 is on the air.

12:50 p.m. -- It's less than an hour before the green flag, and all indications of showers have stayed away so far.
