CHECKERED FLAG: Jeff Gordon wins the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix to tie Dale Earnhardt with 76 career victories. Gordon earns his first victory at PIR and becomes the first driver to win at the track from the pole.

Lap 311 -- WHITE FLAG: Jeff Gordon continues to lead by half a second.

Lap 307 -- Jeff Gordon has built a lead of nearly a second ahead of Tony Stewart.

Lap 305 -- Jeff Green moves past Kyle Busch to take sixth position. Jimmie Johnson goes around Matt Kenseth for fourth.

Lap 303 -- Denny Hamlin catches Matt Kenseth to take third position.

Lap 299 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jeff Gordon gets close and goes below Tony Stewart to take the lead back while Matt Kenseth closes in third. Denny Hamlin is in fourth.

Lap 298 -- LEAD CHANGE: Tony Stewart splits Jeff Gordon and the lapped car of Martin Truex Jr. to take the lead.

Lap 295 -- Denny Hamlin moves to fourth by going four-wide in the turn with Juan Montoya on the high side. Hamlin passes Jimmie Johnson for position.

Lap 293 -- GREEN FLAG: Jeff Gordon gets the race going again. Kurt Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Martin Truex Jr. restart ahead of the leader at the tail of the lead lap.

Lap 286 -- LEAD CHANGE: Jeff Gordon becomes the leader. He was on pit road when the yellow came out, but because he has the first pit stall and was able to stay on the lead lap when the caution came out, he inherited the lead once the lead-lap cars made their stops under yellow.

Lap 285 -- Leaders are on pit road:
• Tony Stewart is out with four tires in 13.6 seconds
• Matt Kenseth gets four tires and fuel in 13.7 seconds

Lap 283 -- YELLOW FLAG: Dave Blaney gets spun around in Turn 4 when trying to get onto pit road. Carl Edwards sent him spinning, and J.J. Yeley gets caught up in the crash.

Lap 283 -- Jeff Gordon is in for his pit stop.

Lap 282 -- Jamie McMurray, Clint Bowyer and Kurt Busch are in for stops.

Lap 279 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Martin Truex Jr. are in for green-flag pit stops before everyone, a short-pit strategy.

Lap 277 -- Tony Stewart continues to lead with a 1.247-second advantage ahead of Jeff Gordon.

Lap 262 -- Matt Kenseth has moved into third place, passing Jimmie Johnson.

Lap 260 -- Penske teammates Kurt Busch and Ryan Newman are running fifth and sixth, respectively.

Lap 237 -- Denny Hamlin has worked his way back up to 10th after a pit-road speeding penalty dropped him from the lead to 31st.

Lap 185 -- Kevin Harvick has fallen back to fifth and says his car has no grip at all.

Lap 180 -- Chevrolets make up 11 of the top 14 cars.

Lap 164 -- Jeff Gordon moves past Kevin Harvick with a fender touch on the outside for second, and Jimmie Johnson looks inside to take third.

Lap 160 -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. is complaining that he has fumes bothering him when the car is filled with fuel.

Lap 155 -- LEAD CHANGE: Tony Stewart moves around Kevin Harvick on the outside to take the point.

Lap 154 -- GREEN FLAG: Kevin Harvick gets the race going again.

Lap 149 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 4: Debris is on the track between Turns 3 and 4, a piece of metal.

Lap 132 -- Matt Kenseth has a piece of plastic on the front of his car, but it is not blocking the air flow. He is running eighth.

Lap 120 -- After starting at the end of the longest line, Denny Hamlin has worked his way back to 20th position.

Lap 103 -- GREEN FLAG: Kevin Harvick gets the race going again. Denny Hamlin restarts 31st.

• Denny Hamlin has a 13.6-second stop and is off first
• Matt Kenseth moves up two positions and comes off seventh

Lap 97 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 3: Debris is in Turn 1.

Lap 93 -- Jeff Gordon has to back off to move around the lapped car of Paul Menard, and that lets Jimmie Johnson move around Gordon to take third.

Lap 77 -- Eight of the top 10 drivers are in Chevrolets. Only Kurt Busch (sixth, in a Dodge) and Matt Kenseth (10th, in a Ford) are not driving bow ties.

Lap 56 -- Jamie McMurray is on pit road for an overheating problem. A windshield tearoff is caught on the nose of his car as water spews out the hood. His crew gets the debris off and he comes out 40th, one lap down.

Lap 51 -- Scott Riggs has his car in the garage as a result of the crash with David Ragan on Lap 42.

Lap 46 -- GREEN FLAG: Denny Hamlin leads the field to green.

• Kevin Harvick picks up two positions and is off fourth
• Jimmie Johnson loses two spots and comes out sixth with an electrical issue; his team changes to a backup battery

Lap 36 -- YELLOW FLAG NO. 1: A trash bag has floated onto the track.

Lap 29 -- Denny Hamlin starts lapping cars near the back, with David Stremme being the first.

Lap 27 -- LEAD CHANGE: Denny Hamlin moves around Jeff Gordon in the corner as Gordon complains of being tight in the middle of the turn.

Lap 20 -- Denny Hamlin is starting to catch Jeff Gordon, but both have more than a 2-second lead over third-place Kurt Busch.

Lap 10 -- Scott Riggs, who started the race in fourth, has dropped back to 13th. Riggs appears to have trouble handling his machine and is running the high line.

Lap 1 -- Jeff Gordon pulls away below Jamie McMurray to lead the first lap as many cars are three-wide crossing the line.

8:48 p.m. -- GREEN FLAG: Jeff Gordon and Jamie McMurray get the Subway Fresh Fit 500 under way from Phoenix.

8:44 p.m. -- As cars roll onto the track, Jeff Gordon pulls to the side while his crew retrieves a backup helmet due to him not being able to speak with his crew via radio. The problem is fixed, and Gordon assumes his position as the pole-sitter.

8:38 p.m. -- Subway's Jared Fogle and former MLB player Robin Yount deliver the command: "Gentlemen, start your engines."

8:31 p.m. -- Josh Kelley sings the national anthem.

8:30 p.m. -- Moment of silence for the tragedy at Virginia Tech, followed by Ken Bowers delivering the invocation.

8:01 p.m. -- FOX's pre-race coverage is on the air.

7:35 p.m. -- It's clear and sunny at Phoenix International Raceway as the Subway Fresh Fit 500 is less than an hour away.
