Welcome to the first state. That statement alone shows that Delaware has some history behind it. And so do the local attractions.

The state was admitted into the Union on Dec. 7, 1787, officially making it the first to ratify the U.S. Constitution. Today, three counties divide the land: New Castle (north), Kent (central) and Sussex (south). Geographically, the capital city of Dover sits nearly in the very middle of the state.

Museums help to tell Delaware's history -- in the air, in the villages and in the farmland. And it's a green plot that lies within Dover's limits that is central to kicking off the weekend during the summer months.

City of Dover Concerts on The Green -- Dover's Thursday night concert series on The Green is the place to be. And this week, it's extra special with a performance from traditional Irish band, Celtic Harvest.

HARPERS57 -- I'll be there. First stock your camper with beer and / or alcohol. You can buy it there if you have to. Find the university and go across the street; there you can stuff your face at any number of restaurants. Or if you run out of food there's an Acme super market right there. Then if you have any money left go in the casino (at night). Clint Bowyer was in there playing poker. So check it out. Everything is close at Dover; it's great.

AMPGirl88 -- I can't go this year but the only thing I think of is you can park and then get a Jake hamburger. That's where we parked last year! Also don't miss the turn to go into the track 'cause we did and ended up on the Jersey turnpike! Then we saw a truck with a 3 flag heading the way we thought and followed it to the track! Good thing that's were it was a heading.

NucMed07 -- There are numerous things to do in the Dover area. If you are into aircraft or Air Force history, check out the Air Mobility Command Museum at Dover Air Force Base -- http://www.amcmuseum.org/. It is free and there are many cool birds to check out. If you are a nature nut, check out Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge -- http://www.fws.gov/northeast/bombayhook/. If you are looking to hit the bars, there are several good bars in the Dover area, The Lobby House, Bubba's, J.W.'s sports bar and many more. If you are willing to leave Dover, take a 30-45 minute drive to the Delaware beaches. There is plenty to do during the day and great nightlife, especially toward Dewey. I hope this helps. Have a great stay in Delaware.

20forme -- Drive down the highway about an hour and a half and come visit me in Jersey! No seriously, about 45 minutes from the track is Rehobeth beach -- lots of stuff to do there. Outlets, boardwalk or you can take the ferry over to Cape May.

bcbFebruary -- There's a lot of history there as it was our first state. Go downtown if possible and visit what they call "The Green," just walk around and see what a lovely town it is, if you are into that sort of thing. Hope you have a good trip.

PoorSpellor -- There are some good restaurants near the track (Bubba's, Hibachi). Try to get to the south side and check out the air base. For some fun and camaraderie walk around the Dover Mall the night before the race and see what the trailer park is up to. It's always good for a laugh and a couple free brewskis. Good luck!
