The rolling hills of vines are hard to match. Row after row, they sit and await the sun. The process is delicate. The result is often unmatched.

There's no mistaking one's location with a simple drive through the valley -- it's Wine Country.

But don't be fooled. The taste is only part of it all. It's the scientific and patient process by which the grapes are transformed and the disciplined lifestyle that orchestrates it all that often brings tourists out in droves.

While wine does characterize the region, it is not, however, simply limited to the making of a drink.

Editor's Pick

Sonoma County Vintners -- The absolute must-stop for the Sonoma Valley is a winery, whether your taste incorporates the grape or not. This isn't just about smelling, sipping, swishing and savoring. It's about exploring the process by which the locals and many transplants make their living. Go on a tour, appreciate the patience and time taken to perfect the product, and give it a try.

Fans' Voice

witchyone8 -- I live in Sonoma County. We still call the track Sears Point. That name will never fade away with NASCAR fans here. Beautiful places to go, wonderful wines to taste; some of the best wines are here. Bring a lot of sunscreen -- you'll need it! HOT HOT HOT! Go visit the Dale Sr. Terrace. People still leave letters, pictures and flowers there. We miss our Man in Black. After all, he brought NASCAR here to us so let's go racin' boys.

walt1953 -- Wish I could take the time to do the wine tasting tour again. Seems like all you need is one person that doesn't drink and about four hours to taste some of the world's best wines. Since this trip I will be on a pretty tight budget I'll just have to pretend while I have a wine cooler by the pool at the hotel. Enjoy the wine tasting.
