New Hampshire Motor Speedway, site of Saturday's Camping World RV Sales 200 (2:30 p.m. ET, ABC) owns a unique record in Nationwide Series history -- and it's by a wide margin.
The 1.058-mile track has hosted 21 Nationwide events and has had 21 different winners -- the longest streak among all tracks in the series' 26-year existence.
| Track | Years in Series | Number of winners |
|---|---|---|
| New Hampshire Motor Speedway | 1990-present | 21 |
| Nashville Speedway | 1984-2000 | 9 |
| Pikes Peak International Raceway | 1998-2005 | 8 |
| Kentucky Speedway | 2001-present | 7 |
| Kansas Speedway | 2001-present | 7 |
| Lanier Speedway | 1988-1992 | 5 |
| Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez | 2005-present | 4 |
| New River Valley Speedway | 1988-1992 | 4 |
| Volusia County Speedway | 1989-1992 | 4 |
Five drivers will try and rewrite the history books, three of whom have had some pretty impressive results on the track recently.
It's been a tough go for defending series champion Carl Edwards. Heading into last week's race at Milwaukee, Edwards had been winless in 36 consecutive events and had held the lead in just four races this season. In fact, eight of the 16 races run, Edwards found himself outside of a top-10 finishing position.
But all that changed last Saturday.
Edwards wasn't the dominant car, leading 27 of the 250 laps run, but he led when it counted and finally put his No. 60 Ford into Victory Lane. Now, he heads to one of his best tracks on the schedule to keep his momentum building.
| Year | Start | Finish | Status | Laps Led |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2005 | 21 | 2 | running | 0 |
| 2006 | 9 | 1 | running | 58 |
| 2007 | 2 | 2 | running | 3 |
For Jason Keller, qualifying has been his Achilles heel this season. With an average starting position of 20.3 it's tough to get up front and compete. The last two events though, something has happened to Keller, as his No. 11 Chevy started second at Kentucky and fourth at Milwaukee and the results have followed with two consecutive top-10 finishes (10th at Kentucky and ninth at Milwaukee).
At New Hampshire, where Keller has raced 15 times in his Nationwide career, starting up front has produced better results.
Since switching to his own equipment from Joe Gibbs Racing, Kevin Harvick is still searching for that elusive first victory. But that's not to say this season has been a bust. In 11 races he's run the No. 33 Chevy, Harvick has five top-five and six top-10 finishes, and he has led 159 laps, which puts him eighth on the season.
Loudon has always been one of Harvick's stronger tracks. In seven races he has four poles and never started worse than seventh and he has finished outside the top 10 once with a win and three second-place finishes.
The last three races, though, Harvick has been nearly unbeatable.
| Wins | Top-fives | Top-10s | Poles | Laps Led | Avg. St. | Avg. Fin. | Driver Rating | Avg. Running Pos. | Laps in T-15 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 2 | 256/601 42.5% | 2.0 | 3.66 | 135.0 | 2.9 | 601/601 100% |
Edwards, Keller and Harvick -- all having tremendously different seasons, with different levels of consistency, yet all have a common goal -- to become the first to repeat at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
