Travel Log: Dover

History, coastal living and ... pirates!

This weekend constitutes NASCAR's second trip of the season to the First State. On the initial voyage, we kept things local to Dover, the state's capital city. This time, we're reaching out to the rest of the state -- and even beyond that.

No trips north to Philadelphia highlighted here.

No getaways to Baltimore, either.

In Delaware, the theme is historical and coastal. It was the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution in 1787. And the Atlantic Ocean has played a major part in both tourism and everyday life for the state's residents.

But as some will find out, the role of the ocean wasn't always kind thanks in part to the visitors it transported.

Pirates of Lewes Expeditions -- Swords, curly mustaches, bandannas and skull caps: it's a pirate's dream. And one for the kids, too. This charter sets sail daily at the hands of Captain Crunch, full of pirate dances, a history lesson of the area's local pirates and the crew's very own map that leads to the sunken treasure below.

PoorSpellor -- Go east about 50 miles! Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach are the top party towns ... if you can call them that! Best to head to Philly or Baltimore.
